Bad times at the moment; haven't been able to overpay for a few months now! Mixture of my house actually costing a lot more than I thought again, and me having to 'save for a rainy day' due to job uncertainty. Shame as the overpayments were going very well before, hope to get back into it again soon0

have you tried looking at your mortgage less savings position - at least that way you can see your "real" position.RosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004

Hi,
I am new on these boards...
I know the year is nearly over, but i would like to join in if its possible..
We made our first ever overpayment today of £100:j
We phoned our mortage provider to find out if we would get any penalties etc if we were to over pay and they said no..
we are on a variable of 3.5%
with 15 years and one month to go
our interest is £4.22 per day
and we owe £44'272.24
we took our mortage out in 1994 and it was only 21k, but a few years ago we had to remortgage and put another 35k on to it, this was to get us out of serius cashflow problems..
My time scale to me mortage free is asap:rotfl: but in reality i would love it to be 3 or 4 years max.
I have no spreadsheets etc as i am hopeless at that type of thing.... so we have applied to have our mortgage account on-line so i can see the balance decrease....even if it is very slowly...
when ever i get surplus money, even if its only £5 i will pay it off the mortage before i have time to spend it...lol..
sorry i have waffled on, but I think i needed to write it down, just to make sure i stick to it...lol...
hope you didnt mind me barging in on the thread...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Firstly, well done to all our graduates. Really inspiring stuff that has kept me going for the last couple of years.
So, another month, another £1,250. We may change our ways after next month and have a year of saving rather than paying off. While the maths is on our side be rude not to and after next month we will be in the 30's so a barrier reached and repayments are now down to the sort of level that interest rates become much less of an issue. I'll post my thoughts better next month. So far: Council Tax downgrade success and £1,000 refund | Mortgage redemption refund £25.00 | Lightspeed £65.00 | Pigsback £30.00 | Quidco £130.00 | Topcashback £405.00 all courtesy MSE
MFW #95 Mortgage at Jan 2010 £66,000 OP Target for 2010 £23,850 OP so far £23,200.00 Balance now £39,9180 -
Congratulations violetblue!
I would be tempted to write a very stern letter advising them of exactly how much interest you intend to charge on that £18!!
Cheers,

Hi,
Is there a spread sheet somewhere i could down load, so when i make a payment it will also calculate how much my mortgage has come down by, and also work out, and add the daily interest rates
I am paying another £300 off the mortgage today, so that is £400 paid off in total this week....
I have also told the kid taht htey are not having much this year for christmas, so i can save a bit htere too:DWork to live= not live to work0 -
Cooltrikerchick - there are a number of them floating about. I use one by an MSE'er called Locoblade. If you search on his name you should find the link to his spreadsheet. I love it :heartsmil and spend hours farting around with the figures and gazing lovingly at it :rotfl:0
