No 141 guiltily checking in after so long off the boards.

I've been steadily overpaying all year so far although I've done it the cheats way and upped the amount of the direct debit rather than actually overpaying. The downside to this is that the mortgage company reduced the term of the mortgage to reflect the increased payment rather than just increasing the payment and letting the term remain.

    Anyway...

The first increase reduced the remaining term from 15 years down to 10, and we found we comfortably managed the extra payment. So now a year on I've decided (I, not we, OH just goes along with whatever I suggest, bless him) that we can afford a little bit more so yesterday I phoned the mortgage company and upped the payment again which reduces the remaining term from 9 years down to 7. Yey!

So as of 1st July my overpayments for this year are £1253 so I'm 63% of the way to my goal. Feels good to think I might be mortgage free before I turn 37. I sure as heck don't intend on staying in this house forever but it's great to think of the equity I'm freeing up to put towards a forever house.

    Hi all,

Well done everyone on the op's - I can't believe that we are halfway through the year and have already paid off over £500k!!!!!!

Not much for me this month as we are having some building work done. I managed to scrape together another few pennies to round this months payment up to £36.88. Not great, but better than nothing!!!!

    Hello everyone.

Don't tell anyone on the dieting wanabee thingy that you have seen me:o

Our overpayment of 881.47 has gone out again and we are feeling no pain! Probably a good thing as we don't have enough spare for a packet of aspirin.:rotfl:

Welcome to all the newbies..you must be crackers too...and well done to everyone else.

Good Luck and plenty of it.

Hi everyone, sorry I've not been kleeping up with the posts- have already pm'd Cake, and have now updated my balance (see my signature below) now that the regular July payment has been applied. I will definitely clear this in 11 months if I keep to the OP schedule (max £500 per month allowed by Nationwide) - not the July 2010 target I hoped for but still 4 years early so I am feeling quite ok with that.

Well done everyone for keeping at it, and thanks Cake for keeping us all in line!

  • Hi all - it's so inspiring (and a little daunting, to be honest) to see such large OPs being made. So far this month I've overpaid £20.90 with a standing order of £74.38 coming out later in the month. Just with the standing orders we're on track to meet our target, but I'm going to try and bring the £1,000 mark forward by a month.

I know it's all relatively small fry compared to some of you, but at least it's a start!

July OP of £172, target reached half way through the year, delighted! Now do I stop and use the extra £172 a month and live a little?!?

My overpayments are really small compared to some too but then so is my wage so comparatively speaking I'm overpaying as best I can.

Owt's better than nowt too as they say...

190 checking in after my hols in Norfolk (exceptional weather last week). £75 paid for July. Re-organisation at work at the mo, may mean I lose some money, but we'll see. I currently do 3 days per week (looking after my little un on the other 2) and they want me to go up to 4 or even 5 days (potentially), so increased childcare costs too. Watch this space :-(
