I had a problem with kids dialling 09...No's after being told they had won £1000's and I was with Tesco phones but BT line and I phoned BT who said they would bar them. I am now with Primus option 2 so assume they are the same.
    Don't presume.

    They're not.

Isnt the call barring through BT still? As I still have line rental with BT. If not how do I check?

No. Call barring is NOT 'through BT' as you put it. When you sign up for CPS, BT continue to provide (and you pay them for) the line only.

So, if you're paying BT for line rental but are using a CPS provider for your calls, all your calls go out via the CPS provider UNLESS you dial a prefix code (e.g. 1280, 1899, 18185).

Hence, using the prefix 1280 would send an individual call out via BT, using the prefix 1899 would send an individual call out via www.call1899.co.uk and not using a prefix of any sort (i.e. most of your calls) would send the call out via your CPS provider.

It follows that dialling 09xx XXXXXXX would send the call out via the CPS provider.

I understand what you are saying but when I contacted BT (which I admit is awhile ago now and I cant remember all the facts) about it they said they could call bar 09.. No's even though I was with Tesco's? I also asked them to hide my number when calling that definitely worked.
Maybe they or I misunderstood and my kids probably never phoned an 09 No. since that original 1!
Anyway I can call bar through Orchid if not.

Yes, BT can bar 09 calls (and they do it for free) for anyone dialling on their system.

I have that bar applied so dialling 128009xx from my line fails.

Unfortunately, Primus, despite their assurances to me (see above), appear to allow 09 calls through.

Originally I think I contacted Tesco's who told me to phone BT. Then the safest option would be the Orchid dialler? So long as the kids dont unplug it.

Yes. Program the Orchid to bar calls starting 09 and 128009.

And bar any call starting 070 and 1280070 while you're at it (up to 49p per minute so-called 'personal' numbers).

If you don't have 1571 on your line, you might try a sneaky bit of programming instead. Instead of barring, use digit translation so any call starting 09, 128009, 070 or 1280070 dials your own number - and returns the engaged tone. That'll fool the kids!

It wasn't that I didn't believe you - it was that Primus had told me via e-mail they didn't carry such calls so, by definition, it is not possible for them to appear on Primus bills!

I've whacked off the below (which has been read but not yet replied to):

No offence! I just thought it was best to show you. It will be very interesting to see if you receive a response.

    Best Wishes.

    Amongst others.

I tried dialling one of the numbers and it sounds like its connecting a dial up modem, which i dont have??

I also use Linux operating system so no problems with spyware dialling, i only have a router anyway.

And as Sensemaya the calls all last for exactly 1 minute.

Is there something fishy going on at Primus???
