Coach houses: cost effective detached house or pokey flat over some garages?

We had a big thread about this about 2 months ago. I want to like them, but I just can't ... because ultimately you're living over the garages of two other people, potentially noisy bugg4hs, with squeaky garage doors. They were also, it was decided, a magnet for kids to play around.tomstickland wrote: »I've been looking around to see what's out there and have noticed a fair few coach houses for sale for reasonable money.
The idea of having a detached 1 bed flat with garage and often garden appeals to me. They look like a cost effective way of achieving what I want.
On the other hand, they could be regarded as overpriced 1 bed flats packed in above garages.
Does anyone have any experience or opinions?0 -
This is what I'm used to seeing advertised:

I just feel that for the same money, a 2-bed small house is usually available at the same price. This one has 2 beds, 2 receptions and a garden. £130k.
In this instance, I searched for a 2-bed house in the same area and found this for the same money.

It's not detached, but it's a proper house.0 -
Matter of preference really. I'd rather have a garage door being opened every now and again versus living next door to people who spent all their time shouting or stomping around.Happy chappy0

Update: I've been looking at loads of coach houses in my local area. There are quite a lot around, but I've yet to find one that ticks enough boxes, though several have come close.
This is an example of good one:

I've had a good look round the area and it's all very tidy. Well kept gardens, no litter, plenty of space between properties etc. Only downside with this example is being 350m from a motorway, something I'd have to think hard about. If this was transplanted another half a mile away from the motorway then I'd be happy to have it.Happy chappy0 -
