Orange 3p texts

Thanks. We have 2 free sims on the way from orange as we said we were ending our contract they offered them, no credit on them. Think when we ring to register we will ask about the 3p texts. If they dont offer them we will just say "OK then we will just use the phone for emergencies". Nothing ventured ...........I am NOT a mortgage & insurance adviser - or anything to do with finance, that was put on by the new system I dont know why?!0

I got the 3p texts as an Orange PAYG upgrade, I didn't buy the phone from the Orange website, I got it from Mobileshop.com.
I had a bit of trouble first of all, they hadn't been applied within the first four days, so I rang, and was told it would be fourteen days and that it wasn't immediate, so I bought an "extra" to tide me over, and still they weren't applied.
I waited the full month from upgrade, as I was told that was how long it originally took to apply the 3p texts, and STILL it wasn't put on.
LAst week I rang Orange and it was applied immediately, and I was told that it should have gone on after 48 hours.
What I am being told all the time though, is that it lasts for six months, so you won't lose out if its not applied straight away.
(that said, I will be writing to Orange, to complain that I have had to make the phone calls to get it applied at my expense, and that I ended up buying 3 small extras, which cost me more than one large extra, whilst waiting, so wish me luck with that!)0 -
I had a bit of bother as well trying to get the 3p texts, that was the reason for my original post. I found that it's not a good idea to register your SIM card at the number you are supposed to but instead dial the 450 from your orange phone or 07973 100 450 from another phone and listen to the options and choose the customer service option for "all other enquiries" and you get to speak to someone who at least has a bit of an idea what they are doing. Be sure to mention that you want to register your SIM which you bought from the internet to get the 3p text offer. As I said earlier, I didn't get it added on right away and had to contact them a second time before it was done. The girl told me she was doing it manually the second time as the first time it must have been done some other way and had not gone through.
Please note that if you dial 450 from an orange phone and select the customer service option as above, you will be charged a one off 25p fee and if you use another phone it will be normal costs probably. It's worth the 25p fee to get it done properly rather than choosing the normal SIM reg option which is free.
There are offers other than the £4.99 SIM web offer (Comet are doing one for the 3p texts if you buy a phone) but for the SIM card, the offer only applies if you buy a SIM from the orange website. It won't apply if you buy a SIM from anywhere else, according to orange.
PS the booklet that comes with the SIM doesn't even mention the 3p text offer but it does say once you have registered and had the SIM update Orange will credit your phone with £1 free which is valid for 30 days. I have not had the £1 free credit but didn't bother to complain as it would cost another 25p to do so. I might still get it yet anyway.0 -

.
No I haven't seen the 3p texts offered with just a sim card anywhere else but the website - the 3p text offer applies to any handsets bought either as a new connection, or as a PAYG upgrade, from anywhere, as long as they were over a minimum price (£69.99 or over, IIRC)0 -
I have ordered another two SIMs. It doesn't say anywhere on the Orange site that the offer ends on 31st January but they told me that was the case at customer services. The SIM must be registered by that date for the offer to apply. I was sent a text telling me what date my 3p texts will end, July sometime it was.0

Here is another variation on the 3p texts. As I said above I ordered another two SIMs, one for my wife and one for my neighbour. My neighbour registered her SIM first and that was it - no extras and the 3p texts to start when she gets a message saying so. Half an hour later I registered the other one for my wife (did it in my own name so as not to need new password etc) and I was given 30 free texts and £1 free credit and was told the same thing as my neighbour about the 3p texts.
I mentioned to the girl at Orange about my neighbour not getting any freebies and she told me it was at the discretion of the person who takes your call!0
