I have just taken out a new contract with 3 and got the a new cony erricson c903 - but last week managed to wreck it by unknowlingly letting it sit in about 2 inches of water for about 20mins! looong story!
Anyway, DH tried to dry it out as much as possible but, not surprisingly it still wont come on. im back to using my old phone at the moment, but any ideas as to what i can do? Have no mobile phone insurance and its not o cvered on our home insurance.
I am still within my 14 days cooling off with 3, but assume this wont count with the phone being water damaged? Any ideas anyone?
thanks for any replies

you could possibly claim on your insurance if you have accidental damage cover at home
if not theres not much you can do you could ring 3 and see if they can do anythingReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If I was you I would leave the phone on the radiator for a good week as there is a very slim chance that it totally dries out. A friend of ours got their phone submerged in water and at first wouldn't turn on but a week later was OK again. Take out the sim, battery, cover and dry as much as you can (obvious).
There's nothing to lose.
The sim should be fine but if not 3 will at least replace it with the number you were using. If the phone still won't work you could get either an unlocked 3g phone from Carphone Warehouse, e2save, Phones4u, a friend, eBay or another option could be a refurb from 3 themselves.
My girlfriend trapped her phone in the car door when it was in her handbag and cracked the LCD screen so we got a cheap refurb Nokia 3120 for £40 for the last 3 months of the contract.
I eventually took a chance on eBay and got a new LCD screen for £10 delivered and fitted it myself so at least we have a spare phone.
If it doesn't work after a week then try to have it repaired, a lot of options.0 -
thanks guys - will give the drying out another go. Gutted as iI had only had it two days...hubby had ordered me a rubber fascia for my old fone!! so that will have to do!0

I dropped my trusty N95 in the bath about a year ago. I took it apart and left it in the airing cupboard for a week. Been fine ever since (and nice and clean!)Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I dropped my old one in the mop bucket a while ago and I had tried turning it on, it never did... the advice was NOT to turn it on til its completely dried as it shorts the circuit.. Maybe its too late now OP, but for future reference guys...He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Your bank may offer phone insurance, maybe register it with them (the handset) and take advantage of this offer in 3-4weeks..
We have a similar situation, we took the extras on the account for this, but when we ring to claim they tell us that we needed to register the phone, and now cant claim for 21 days..
they dont tell you about that when they sell you the package.0 -

thats fraud because she would be taking out the insurance knowing it broken and that they was gonna make a claimReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. I dropped my old phon in thebath so that broke too, so cant really help but some advice:
1. as mentioned, dont keep putting in battery in and out, leave for a week or so then try, otherwise could short circuit
2. Some people recommened taking phone apart and putting everything into a bowl of rice, to soak excess moisture
3. Also, try taking phone apart and buy some silicia sachets, as thats used to soak moisture too, leave in a sandwhich bag with phone
good luck0 -
I heard, and i add it may be an urban myth, that if you've got elactrical equipment wet and then you drop your phone in a high alcohol liquid like 40%+ vodka and then dry it out it dries things out because it removes the moisture and naturally evaporates quicker. Never tried and don't personally know anyone who has, but . . . . . . .0

do not put it on the radiator, you will ruin the chips inside the phone, they are not designed for that temperature, airing cupboard i guess is a better alternative, definately do not use a hair dryer though. Taking it apart might void any warranties, try searching by particular models on solutions using google.
if all fails, sell it on ebay for spares or repair. should get some money back at least, or use a phone recycler!0
