Just curious as to why the house prices sub board is only available when you are looged in. Why is not generally available to unregistered users?

Because there were some naughty posters for a while. Several accounts were suspended/deleted, and hiding it was deemed necessary by the site owners.
I don't find it a problem. I just stay logged in all the time, anyway...0 -
I'm logged in all the time as well.
You can only see it when you're logged in because they're like the stuff you hide in cupboards when people come round. You wouldn't want strangers to see how you really live! The posters would scare people off signing up. It's much better than it was though, I think you needed to take drugs to begin to understand what was going on in there.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

It is not a sub board, it is a board.
It was set up to stop people starting irrelevant house price discussions that pushed genuine queries several pages down, and to stop genuine queries being hijacked by you-must-be-mad-to-buy-now type comments.
If you want to know why it is not open to unregistered users, ask in the correct forum?

Does it matter? Tis pretty scary in there at times, its like someone has locked 20 argumentative psychics in a room. They all KNOW what is going to happen, yet they all disagree so have to shout louder than each other. Then when you ask them for proof, they shut up and run to another thread to start again.0

Here: ----> IMPORTANT WARNING! The future of this board.MSE_Martin wrote: »Hi Folks,
This is a particularly unpleasant message to write.
As many of you know we set up the Debate House Prices, the Economy & Recession board recently to allow discussion without affecting the original practical focus of House Buying, Renting and Selling board.
More recently, the tone of the board has taken on an unwelcome turn from some quarters and my team are now having to deal with posts and threads which at best stand on the borderline of bad taste, and at worst stray headlong into issues of racism, immigration and xenophobia.
Clearly as the site owner I cannot and will not allow this to continue; it is putting a huge strain on our forum team resources. And as this is adiscussion board, not a core MoneySaving board, I don’t choose to prioritise the resources here.
So I hope you’ll understand when I say it’s important to be clear, this is NOT a free speech forum, if you want that you need to go elsewhere. We’re a Money Saving site, that is our priority and we cannot tolerate abuse of this site’s hospitality.
This board was set up on the request of users and I want to allow it to continue, but to do what it’s supposed to do, which is intelligent, considered views of the economic climate, house prices, and similar. It is not a political board and the deliberate stretching and changing of remits again and again isn’t helpful or pleasant.
It isn’t my aim or intention to take this drastic action. Yet please remember this is NOT a public site, it is a privately owned site of which I am the legal publisher. We spent a great deal of time and money for lawyers, on defending consumer rights on things said in the forum and I am very proud of that.
Yet, and not just because I find many such views personally abhorrent, I am simply unwilling to be the publisher or take responsibility for these contentious discussions which are NOT about MoneySaving.
As such, I feel it’s important to give fair warning of the outcome if things don’t improve.
1. The board has already been closed so only those logged in can see it
2. If it doesn’t improve the board will be moved away from the MoneySaving boards into the Arms. If that doesn’t help, it will be closed.
3. Individual posters who continue to push towards debates against this policy will have their privileges to post removed.
4. If the reaction is to take these discussions elsewhere on the site to circumnavigate, then we will instantly delete the threads and remove posting privileges.
Please be aware when we put this into place we will be acting to the spirit not the letter of these rules, so any “getarounds” such as dressing up discussions as MoneySaving, will be ignored.
I want this board to flourish as a please for enlightened, interesting, informed debate about the state of the economy and hopefully that’s what it will return to.
Kind regards

Quite incredible! "NOT a free speech forum" ... that IS what forums are for. If there are individual posters that post racist xenophobis posts then yes they should have their privileges removed or even have their IP addresses prevented from postingbut that shouldn't detract from such an important moneysaving issue being available to non logged in users IMHO0

Genuine Q DG...did it really seem that bad and odd? I didn't see it myself but did edit out stuff (by ignoring it) that went OTT/0 -
Actually, I think its less goood now than it was. When it was OTT there was a lot more support of peoples arguments, links to more reading on topics, with some people having great generosity with knowledge and being prepared to explain stuff.
It gets silly because its an antidote to the headed stuff, and I think thats a good thing, better than the aggression and the other problems its had.
FWIW I think it has the potential to be the best board on the site. I have learned so much, and when there is rational discussion of different opinions it has been, in the past, really educational. I think understanding the big picture of economics is the next step on in ''consumer revenge'' which is what the site is about. Perhaps we can become better educated so we never get in a position where we need revenge!0 -
LMAO, Discussion Time (part of the Arms) has been hidden from non-logged-in users for about three years now. The stuff that goes on in there is a worthy rival of what was going on recently in the Debate etc board. No wonder it needs to be kept locked away in the cupboard....Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
