Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 6th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Beth - Sorry I missed your birthday, hope you had a fabulous day anyway.
Hester - try and get some sleep hon.
Tiredmum - you must be so relieved! Great news.
Molly - big big hugs.gifto you honey. I am sorry you have had such a dreadful week.
Essex-girl, Haribo and bargainbird - thank you. xxx
Jackie - I don't think it's anal, I think it is very sensible. Good luck to your OH on Saturday hon.
Flutterby - Glad you are feeling better.
Bitsy - Nutella tastes much better straight from the jar, I believe that to be a scientific fact..giggle.gif Hope your daughter feels better today.
Mioliere - Sorry to hear you have a cold but that onion soup sounds yummy.
Haribo - Our biggest local display (held on the green in front of the beach) is like yours - no distractions, just a few food stalls and free to go and watch, it's a great evening if you enjoy fireworks.

I wasn't aware of logging out straight after posting yesterday morning but I do know I was on messenger shortly afterwards to talk to a friend in America so will take your word for it. giggle.gif Nice to see you on the Old Style Daily though and as long as you boiled that egg and ate it after running the race I am sure that could count as OS!

As I already mentioned I spoke to my friend at around this time yesterday who said that Tristan was very weak and they had moved him back to ICU. However I haven't heard a thing since this then and that has left me feeling a bit worried. Thank you all though so very much for your continued prayers and thoughts.

The left over meatballs in pasta was even nicer the second night, but tonight we are having baked pots with corned beef and a big salad. Lunch will be bean and chorizo soup for my OH and Somerset brie and crispbreads for me. I think I may take an afternoon nap when my OH does as the last few day/nights of worrying have left me like that bear in the advert for painkillers!

Have some more sewing, well mending to do as I noticed my 'best' tablecloth needs a little attention in one corner where some of the lace is attached. I find mending and darning very soothing though so it is never a chore.

I hope you all have a good day. With love, light and gentle HShuggies.gif for everyone who would like one.

  • Morning MSD & all who follow.
I'm off to work soon, I'm doing extra hours for a while as we're have some problems at work with the servers so we have limited/no computer access, we also have 2 or 3 admin staff out on compassionate leave & teachers dropping like flies through stress.
Roll on tomorrow, loads of housework needed & I may even get some of it done.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Hi MSD and Hester

MSD - hope Tris is alright. Yes, I think the onion soup has definitely shortened the cold I've had! I'm feeling a lot better - apart from needing to keep plenty of tissues handy!

Hester - hope you cope with the extra work load.

Molly - my thoughts are very much with your friends and their sad loss. The news is absolutely heartbreaking these days, and I get so angry at the loss of young brave lives. (((Hugs))) to you all at this dreadful time.

Jayne and George - hope the days are getting slightly easier to bear for you. You are still in my thoughts.

Donny-Gal - safe trip home. I'll wave as you go past!

Well, I was up early this morning then my PC decided to go on a go-slow (too much surfing, methinks!), so I've just turned it off and back on again and it's OK now.

Not much was done yesterday apart from basic chores and some crochet in front of the TV. Today I need to get some food shopping done, and then I shall have to get some 'proper' work done - it's been on the backburner for a while.

OS-wise - dinner will be left over chicken casserole - the perfect comfort food for someone with a cold. I used a carcass from a chicken I jointed. It's surprising how much extra meat you end up with if you joint one yourself!

The weather has been pretty gloomy lately, but I did manage to get some washing on the line yesterday, and I emptied some flower tubs in the garden. Just need to get my geraniums in for over-wintering.

Well, not much else to report - off to put the kettle and BM on, in that order.

Good morning from a very chilly Manchester! The fire is on in the living room for DS2 & 3. I haven't got the heating coming on in the morning though as I hate waking up hot.

I have woken up full of a cold again. With DD working with nursery aged children and DS3 being in a new school we all seem to be going down with everything this year  I got some lovely satsumas yesterday so I'll keep my Vit C up with them.

Plans for today are to clean the windows, dust & vac through, put 3 loads of washing to dry and some ironing. Lunch will be egg on toast and dinner is sausage pasta made with Aldi's bratwurst sausages  They are our favourites. Breakfast for the kids is chocolate spread on toast for a change.

Diva Thoughts are still with you & Tris

Jayne Still thinking of you & George

Have a good day all & hugs for anyone who needs one.

Edited to add: NPM Good to see you back! It's ridiculous that the NHS have such silly sounding rules for ill staff. I'm sure you'd rather not have it all at all IYSWIM xxx

Morning Everyone, its bitterly cold here this morning and we have the weirdest orange sky I have ever seen

Bonfire Night went well, the kids loved the fireworks and although there was no actual bonfire we are going to one tonight so two evenings of entertainment for them

Its a non-uniform day at the kids school and also a special bonfire night school lunch so no uniforms to iron or lunchboxes to pack:D

As a result all the usual cleaning, ironing and washing is already done so just a case of having a shower and tidying the bedrooms and I am done:T

Off to Blackburn today to traipse round the market.I love it and always end up buying loads of rubbish that we dont really need but hey it gets used eventually

Macaroni Cheese and Salad for tea with Apple and Pear Crumble and custard for pud

MSD-I have Tris and you firmly in my prayers at this anxious time

    Good morning chums,
bit chilly this morning, I have dug my thicker winter coat out as doing the school run for three days this week reminded me how chilly school playgrounds can get whilst waiting for the bell to go.I don't leave Mikey until I see him go through the door,he is only five after all. There are some Mums who just seem to chuck them through the gate and whizz off with their other child in a buggy. I couldn't do it I would worry myself silly all day in case he had wandered off.
DGS has got through to the second interview so I still have my fingers crossed for him.
Still trying to get hold of this massage chap, I keep getting his answerphone, perhaps he's away for a week somewhere.
Lovely to see my brother, even though it was only for a short time.
Today after the school run I will take my DGD to the Drs. she has to have another blood test as her B12 level apparently is very low, then will run her to college. This afternoon I have my history class which is great as its done for fun and we get to dig into various famous figures from history. Our tutor is excellent and finds out the most amazing things about folk that you would never think of .
I must have a rummage in the freezer to see what is there for dinner tonight, possibly some salmon which I can have with salad and some wedges. Right time to get a shift on and make some breakfast and jump(or in my case) hobble into the shower.have a great day everyone and <<hugs to those who are sad or down>>
    Cheers chums

hope everyone has a great day xx

    (((Hugs))) to all that need
  • Morning all! Chilly start here too.
Shopping today but hopefully under my budget. May look for/purchase some christmas presents too. All her dads family want to know what to get dd which is a hassel but after the ridiculous baby toy that his mum got her last year (when she was almost 4!!!) because I ran out of ideas I'd better find something this year. Would be helpful if they could be sensible but there we are!!
I have to confess that I have got most of dd's stuff from ebay-4 lovely disney princess dressing up dresses and a cd player all second hand but perfect and uite cheap. I've got some cd's and cd books too so shes just about sorted. She has so many toys that I'm reluctant to get many more.
Whoops just seen the time, got to go!
    July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Curley top it's good to reuse items that still have good wear in them. So many toys in good condition, well made in the first place or simply didn't appeal to said child.

I'm off to work in a bit, sewing job going on in between things for the next couple of days. Got lunch with the mums from Youth Orchestra committee later so no doubt we will set the world to rights and all in an hour and a half. Then meeting colleague for a coffee, she needs someone to talk to right now.

Then dh will be home! Been away since Monday morning early. I'm getting used to it now. Usually only three nights but sometimes four.

WIll have a nice big tray of roast veg I think to use some of the things in the fridge and maybe put some of the nice costco italian sausages in with it. Mum and dad brought some nice tomatoes, so that will make a bit of 'sauce'.

Hope you all have a good day, weather is gloomy here so must remember to take umbrella, sky was rather pink this morning too.
