  • I'd disagree with goldspanners with his claims of unreliable Hyundais. You have to ask would they offer a 5 year warranty if their cars were going to fall apart the day after the warranty expires?
I've got a 2005 V6, it's never let me down, quick enough and the runnning costs aren't too bad. There's a very good owners club (google it) with loads of info about the cars, and how to get cheap parts etc. If you can get over the badge snobbery - get one.
I would avoid the 1.6 as it's underpowered though.

Thanks, just edited it and realised after i didn't give our postcode! Amazing that you raise security and internet and i panic!

What are major issues with imports, as they seem very cheap compared to UK. Mr2s especially, less than grand for decent looking/sounding cars.

Is it the same for MX5s?

some parts are different from uk spec and some features like 4 wheel steering/drive can give astronomical repair bills.

i know it was a while back but a guy i knew had a toyota celica import, great car very fast 4 wheel steer, all singing all dancing light years ahead of our cars in terms of spec inside it but he could only get technical info in japanese for it and no garage would touch it other than apparent import specialists who knew how to charge. he ended up having serious problems with the 4 wheel steering on it.
i wont mention how its life ended.

yep my hyundai coupe has been very reliable and it's now neary 7 years old. like any car there's going to be the odd lemon but hyundai coupe's are very reliable. they're pretty fast too, ok not the fastest but beat most cars hands down on looks.

dont go for the hyundai, especially if your only spending £3k. they fall to bits after 5 years and parts are not cheap and there isnt many aftermarket parts for them.

Thanks again GS, you are dedicated!

Re: the above, on searching there are Hyundai coupes around that have mileages from 100 - 190k pre 2000 ugly model, with the dodgy round headlights (which should only be seen on a Jag and very few others! (Must declare an interest as we bought and still have 2003 s-type and is a GREAT CAR and bought a car that was £35k new in 03 for £3.5k 5 and half years later!!!!)

This is why i like the pre 2000 HC, was a bargain for what you got new and seems ridiculously cheap now and still looks great:

As for the post 2002 just look, just wish petrol was cheaper and i hadn't had so many claims:

    http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/200944345083699/sort/priceasc/usedcars/make/hyundai/model/coupe/price-to/3000/price-from/2000/postcode/ha71hq/page/1/radius/100?previous=%2Fsearch%2Fresults%2Fusedcars%2Fpostcode%2Fha71hq%2Fradius%2F100%2Fmake%2Fhyundai%2Fmodel%2Fcoupe%2Fprice-to%2F3000%2Fprice-from%2F2000%2Fpage%2F1%2Fsort%2Fpriceasc&anchor=advert200944345083699&logcode=p

I defy anyone to say that that is not a stunner and guess (without google) what it cost new.

Still wish i could afford an etype though:sad:

    One day!:j
  • 2 litre engined Hyundai coupe's are not slow, and are superbly reliable.

My son had an F2 which he thrashed mercilessly and could not break it, something no other car except for his previous Accent could be said about.

They do have a brake situation you should know about though...if they need front discs they are fitted from inboard which means the suspension legs have to come off and the hubs removed...which results in front wheel bearings x4 being wrecked.

Therefore budget around £350+ for new front discs/pads if you do the donkey work yourself and have access to a good workshop to press the hubs and bearings on and off the carrier.
I don't know if the latest shape has the same design but it's worth checking.

Because they are looking at a 3 litre BMW sports car!
Simple information like mpg is readily available and to be honest if you are looking at a 3 litre sports car, mpg is really the last of your worries
I'm currently selling a BMW 330Ci and 99% of people who have been on our forecourt have asked "What sort of mpg will it do...".
I feel like saying "Should you be considering one of these if you're that bothered whether you get 25 or 28mpg..."

Isn't it sensible to get the full picture of running costs before making a considered purchase?

I would guess a 330 is up for more than £500. I would rather find out before I bought than post on here I'm only getting 19 mph to the gallon, why?
