Coupe advice please!
Hi all,
Looking to buy a coupe or roadster for under £3k. Thinking of Hyundai Coupe but have read they are quite slow and need a push at low speeds and as i live in NW London and don't use motorways that often could be expensive on the fuel economy! Also read that parts are very expennsivve and most are hyundai only.
Also Mazda MX5, but seems a bit of minfield with all the imports.
any advice or suggestions, including other cars gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

dont go for the hyundai, especially if your only spending £3k. they fall to bits after 5 years and parts are not cheap and there isnt many aftermarket parts for them.
£3k for an mx5 will probably get you an older version as they hold thier money well.
have you thought about one of these? or heres another.
my mate had one, very reliable and powerful with the V6.
or what about one of these? it might look high miles but they are good for it.a V6 will double this no problem....work permit granted!0 -
Thanks goldspanners, but i have had a few claims so need to keep an eye on insurance, this is why i was looking at the smaller coupes. Definitely like what i've been readin on the Puma reviews:

what about honda prelude? oh has had 2, ultra reliable, lovely to drive and for 3K you will get a beautiful example! Love them and would really recommend! Nothing slow about them either!

So, you want a sporty, flashy car, but don't want the running costs? Sould you be looking for one then...?
I'm currently selling a BMW 330Ci and 99% of people who have been on our forecourt have asked "What sort of mpg will it do...".
I feel like saying "Should you be considering one of these if you're that bothered whether you get 25 or 28mpg..."0 -
Fiat coupe 2.0 20v turbo.
Parts cheap, impossible to go faster for the money (other than the times you're in the hard shoulder)0 -

why do car salesmen get upset when you ask a question about a car you are thinking of buying?0 -

Because they are looking at a 3 litre BMW sports car!
Simple information like mpg is readily available and to be honest if you are looking at a 3 litre sports car, mpg is really the last of your worries0 -
honda integra's type r's are really comeing down in price especially on an r s t v plates good bhp really nippy and looks amazing inside and out. parts are not too expensive at main dealer level and service parts are availiable at any motor factors and some electrical parts too i.e sensors leads coil packs.
if you dont mind a sporty hatch back rather than a coupe. hunt piston H£Ads for a 90 spec escort rs turbo i know their old but hold an open mind a sec!
3k will get you a up to 250-280 bhp well looked after inside an out and all parts are available in motor factors. rs turbo also falls into a lower insurance bracket and tax bracket than most coupes and quicker and better mpg for around town. and kept in good nick thier slowly becoming a classic so will increase in price too and come to selling will give you a good return in money.0 -

There not that slow people just expect sporty cars to go quicker than they often do simple physics show a 2.0 estate weighing the same as a coupe means they both accelerate the same
fuel economy depends how you drive and if the cars running ok
IMO the mazda Mx5 with a hard top is one of the best forget worrying about imports insurance companies deal with them al the time there often better kept than uk cars and better equipt and theres so many that often specialist know more about them then uk cars
parts prices arn't that bad0
