That's nonsense. If you don't use the modem, it won't slow down the machine, will it? And you'll only use the modem if you want to do analogue dialup.
Do they? I've never heard of an analogue dialup modem that is faster than this.
    Oh, the irony...

yes i know a modem wont affect the performace notice the AND in the statment made, learn to read before making comments.

Strange that I've taken the last 3 PC offer leaflets (over the last year or so) from both ALDI and LIDL (that's 6 PCs) to several local PC builders and asked if they could build the same for a cheaper price (or something better for the same price)

The almost UNANIMOUS INSTANT response from all of them was "NO CHANCE ! "

Only on 1 occasion did 2 of them even try to achieve such a good price and when the final numbers were crunched they were both just short of being £150 more expensive

Then I suggest you do so!

Show us exactly the spec of the PC, down to the last nut & bolt, that you can build and offer it to us at the price that makes it worth your while.
If there's money to be made for you and a saving for me or a better specification system for the same price, I'd willingly pay you for the service.

However if your offering of https://www.microdirect.co.uk is the best you can come up with, then you've no chance.

The disk drive offer you trashed a few days ago is 10% more expensive at microdirect and they have nothing that beats 22.3 pence per gigabyte (delivered) at the minute.

..and ... btw .. with an attitude like that, I'd be surprised if your days on this site aren't numbered.

    Absolute b*ll*cks as usual,

http://www.infiniti.co.uk/ thats a link to a local PC shop near me, check their hardware list and you'll see cost of the following components

    CPU -AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ SKT 939 *RETAIL* £199 - The Targa has a 3700+
    Motherboard - JETWAY 939AGP SND/LAN/ATA 1000FSB SKT 939 £49
    Hard Drive - MAXTOR 300GB 7200 RPM SATA 150*16MB* £129
Case - VARIOUS MIDI TOWER 350W ATX FROM £29
    Memory - 512MB DDR 400 PC3200 £30 x 2 = £60
    Graphics Card - ASUS 9200 RADEON 128MB AGP £32
    DVD-Writer - LG GSA-4163B 16X +/- DVD WRITER D/LAYER £45
    DVD-Rom - SONY 16X DVD IDE £18
Digital tuner - V-STREAM DIGITAL DVBT TV TUNER PCI £59
Wireless Desktop - LOGITECH WIRELESS KBD/MSE OPTICAL KIT £49
    Modem - AMBIENT HARDWARE 56K PCI £15
OS - Microsoft XP Home edition £85

This kit comes out at £769.00 and does not meet the spec of the Targa, and is missing the headset and 9-in-1 card reader and software bundle offered by LIDL. Not to mention it only has 1 year warranty as opposed to the Targa 3 year warranty.

So, you were saying about local PC shops........

the targa is a good machine for the average user (if you want 'bleeding edge' then why even go bargin hunting...), my sister needs an upgrade and this will do nicely.

Have a look at post #22 on this thread. That is a Micro direct shopping cart it's not complete though and there is postage to add.
It can't be done lol ;)
