Thanks for clarifying that. Alba is broadcast now on FreeSat and I thought it was Welsh! :o

Some of the "300"s channels have also already gone from Freeview (on 27 October) to clear bandwidth for HD and other stuff.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Another point to consider, if you get a freesat box you cannot get channel 5, at least that is my understanding. But if you get an old Sky box and a freesat card from Sky you can.
Hey, Leopard, you still have an analogue receiver! I sold ours at a "vide grenier" French car boot, many years ago!
No comment on using Freesat in France, but have just bought another box to use with my Sky Gnome to give me UK radio in the garden and shed.

    Five is a Freesat channel.
You cannot buy a 'Freesat card' from Sky. It's not the same platform (although the Sky free to view channels are similar to Freesat). I think you are confusing it with 'Freesat from Sky'.

No problem with channel 5 on freesat.

I got rid of Sky and got freesat because freeveiw would have meant upgrading my very old ariel. If the dish ever needs upgrading it is very easy to acess on the side of the house unlike the ariel on the roof. In my experience people don't clamber up onto a roof for pennies.

Also..a motorised sat antenna is possible ...things are waaay up in the air right now, HD will be normal soon and more channels will appear on different birds, and you can have ALL of it if you spend a few quid on a mounting capable of being motorised (and have the clear view of the sky for such a dish).

I used to instal motorised dishes and systems ...they were thousands but now they even sell 'em in Lidl for under 100 quid :pm times have changed and will continue to.

My dad bought a motorised dish 10 years ago or more and even though it was 'hugh', the dish and the digibox only came to around 400 quid then

Macman, you state...Five is a Freesat channel.
You cannot buy a 'Freesat card' from Sky. It's not the same platform (although the Sky free to view channels are similar to Freesat). I think you are confusing it with 'Freesat from Sky'.
But some Freesat boxes do not get Channel 5 and what is the difference between Freesat and Freesat from Sky?
People get an old Sky box, buy a card from Sky and get Freesat! It comes from the same satellite as the Freesat box and seems to be the same channels.
What do you mean by platform?

Channel 5 is a Freesat channel, you will not get it on a Sky box without a viewing card, along with a couple of other minor channels. You will get it on Freesat. look at the channel listing ontheir website ands it is there
Freesat from Sky is an entirely different platform to Freesat, the fact that the channels are similar is irrelevant. One is from Sky, the other is from the Freesat consortium.

You do get channel 5 on a Sky box without any card in. It does not however appear on the EPG and you do have to add it manually, but it is available.
