oh you have to try the valerian knotties or body cushions!! All my cats love this and sometimes fight over it lol They dont go mad for normal catnip, only valerian but it really stinks!

The plan is valerian cigars from eBay, as they look well made and we don't have any long shaped toys. It's good to hear from someone whose cats love valerian!! :D

the ikea tunnel is great! they used to also have a matching cat tent (which i also have).

the other day fonzie (cat) was hiding in the back of the tunnel and when amber (dog) walked by he jumped at her. she jumped in the air really scared. it was hiliarious! kinda makes up for all the harassment she usually gives him.

i do like to try and rotate the toys in and out so i don't have to buy as many.... but that doesn't always work! somehow i cant resist buying more.

i forgot to add that we also have a squeaky mouse on a spring that makes a noise when you touch it. cat wasn't bothered, dog loved it. and sadly, it doesnt seem to squeak as much now due to repeated bites and hits from the dog!

i think my animals are a bit mixed up, but whatcha gonna do?

Mine wasn't interested in Da Bird - she watched it but made no effort to chase it at all, but she goes mental for the cheaper versions (jungle teaser, feather teaser etc.) from Pets at Home.

I also got her a laser toy - no interest in it whatsoever, although next door's cat loves it and will chase it for ages.

I'm spending a chunk of money on good quality toys each time I get paid, then in a few months I will be able to rotate. I love the Turbo Track as I can just keep adding to it, ditto Da Bird as you can buy different attachments! :T

Noah is indoors only, and doesn't like other cats or dogs so he doesn't have any furry friends, just me! :o Although I own a good sized flat, it's still a flat so there is less space and less interesting stuff to look at out of the window than you'd have in a house.

I've just been on Amazon looking at books about training cats like you would a dog ... what do you all think?? It kind of follows on from me thinking about the dog intelligence toys.

I used to do a lot of training with our cats, traditional reward based and clicker. Its a good discipline for me because it HAS to be animal lead, you can't really make a cat do anything! And shaping with a cat can be hard work. (I got a lot of flop rolls over my feet working on lying down). I have siamese, which I do think makes it easier. But it is still excellent fo any one interested in developing techniches of self control, patience and frustration avoidance in themselves as a trainer.:D:D

The single reason I'm glad I did is even from a long way over the fields they return when called: a relief if there is local shooting/hunt/ploughing or whatever.

I recmmend thrive freezedried meat treats. The fish and chicken are the ones my cats like best. They are the only treats one of y cats likes. They have to REALLY want the treat to make the training worth while.
  • Another vote for Da bird. My kitten goes mad for it and starts getting excited when we up pick the tube that it's stored in knowing he is going to play with it. I had a feeling my kitten wouldn't like it as he doesn't tend to play with toys but he loves it. I would definitely recommend it.
Another favourite is a laser pen which he would chase all day if we let him and he also has a childs toy cat that is as big as him that he likes to wrestle and carry around in his mouth.
  • Another vote for Da Bird from my gang
But even more popular are Yeoww cat nip toys. ONLY Yeoww though, honestly it is the best most potent catnip ever. It used to be available onky as the catnip cigar ( which looked scarily like an old pooh when found behind furniture ) but now they have expanded into bananas, rainbows and hearts. My lot have a toy corner where they go and select a toy of choice, they drag them away growling and then go crazy licking and scrabbling with the toy.
    I always buy from Purrsinourhearts!
Ikea do some cute mice and rats for 50p or something silly and I have bought some loose yeoww catnip to stuff the toys with...very funny to watch!

Oh yes I'm thinking of getting them some at Christmas too! I know so many people whose cats love this, I can't recommend it enough :)

However I usually buy direct from their website as it works out a little bit cheaper and its free shipping. They are usually very fast on delivery too.

here is the link if its allowed

p.s My cat also won "cat of the month" - so I'm in for a freebie! lol
  • Buy a Kinder egg, dispose of the chocolate (I don't think I need to describe how this is done :D), jettison the useless bits of plastic that are supposed to be the point of the thing.

Keep the yellow plastic egg halves. Ping one down the hallway from your palm. Watch cat skittle her way down hall and batter the egg bit until she loses it under the furniture or collapses in a panting heap.

Remove from cat before bedtime. If you forget, you will awake to the sounds of cat bashing Kinder egg bit up and down the hallway at 3am.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
