Oh, and two scratch post are in the garage as well, as I lost the battle of getting him to use them. Instead, he uses the carpets... And nothing works!!!!

Have you tried a horizontal scratch surface? Some cats like to stretch full height so many scratch posts are not wide or tall enough, here is the ultimate: http://hicat.co.uk/
Some prefer to scratch at floor level: I am really lucky with Noah, I have two Pets at Home cardboard scratchers (£5) which he really likes.

I got him this one from pets at home (that is number 3):

Within 5 minutes toy was detached. He would play fetch with the toy, and then couple of weeks later the toy disappeared. We still haven't found it!!! As well as few other small toys. He didn't use the mat. I am just using it now in front of one of the litter trays to reduce the tracking.

The only similar things I can find for a cat are the Zooplus brain train, but that has a ball in a track which I already have a superior version of with the Turbo Track!

    Another vote for da bird.

Paper bags. Cake boxes. They nver get bored of things being thrown into paper bags big enough to jump/climb into.

One of mine loves very small teddies with long limbs. Embarasingly we buy her expensive moulin roty ones, because her reaction to them is so funny. she's siamese and fetches them, but with these when she gets a new one she gets super excited and makes a noise a bit like the noise cats make for ''bird'' and won't be parted for it for a few weeks.

Cat nip has no affect on our cats what so ever. :(

Have you tried honeysuckle or valerian with your cats? Noah likes catnip and honeysuckle; I haven't tried valerian yet.

I used the magic one for my Cat and he can do it fine, perhaps a little too easily lol.

    My cats favourite toys are:

    1. 2 cardboard boxes - one with no lid for leaping in, one with a lid for in more intelligent of the cats to open, hide in then leap out when we least expect it!

    2. Scrunched up paper - they love it!

    3. an old sock which one of the girls found in my bin. They love to just carry it around and play with it.

    4. LEAVES!!!!! they are loving the supply of leaves which are blowing into the garage at this time of year - they crackle, they move when you cause the air to move.

    5. The cord on my dressing gown - hours of entertainment to be had!

    6. Laser pen - they just adore this! Does send them a bit crazy though searching for the red dot after you have stopped using it!

    7. Noisy balls - enjoyable for the first few mins then they get bored.

    8. The spider on a string - they love catching and 'killing' this.

    9. Put on a leather glove then cover it with the oven glove and go wrestling - such good fun!

    10. Wiggling feet under a bed spread!

    11. Play cat fighting!

    12. Chasing a fly, catching the fly then letting the fly go so they can catch it again!

I have order them a da bird which they will hopefully enjoy (knowing my girls though they will reject their first expensive toy!) I am also looking for a cheap treat dropping ball so they have to work for their treats!

My girls are house cats so we do spend ages playing with them. So much of what my cats like is free and they really are good at amusing themselves.

No I haven't. We do have honey suckle in the garden...I've never noticed any reaction, but maybe once dried?

I'd never heard they reacted to either tbh :o
