that really depends on what you're making with the dough; buns, bread, pizza, pretzels etc

what i would do is if you just use one of the recipes from the breadmaker cookbook i'd then look for a few similar oven baked recipes online and see what the general concensus is for whatever you're making.

i've got some multi-seed dough in mine right now, my first batch (looks good so far) i used the basic white bread recipe that came with the machine, i'll be having a look in a few minutes to see what i should cook it at, as i'll be making buns and adding cheese on top to mine i may have to adjust the time as most recipes will probably be for a loaf of bread

buns are easier though to be flexible with as they aren't so thick, generally speaking when they are golden the knife will normally come out clean, when it does they are done ;)

as for lining it, i'd say for a loaf of bread it should work fine if you grease the tin then lightly flour it, that's always worked well for me with both sweet loaves like banana bread and with the very rare loaf of bread made in a bread tin. normally i make buns or a round cob, with those i just butter the pan and it normally works quite well (and lightly flavours it too) but again if you're in doubt do whatever it says for the recipes you find for oven baked bread and you should be ok

  • I bought one of these in august and just love it, my own take on the best of both recipe is (using the dosing cup and spoons included in package)
1 and half cups of warm water
    1 teaspoon of salt
    2 tablespoons of oil
1 cup of wholemeal bread flour
3 cups of white bread flour
    1 tablespoon of sugar
1 and half teaspoon of yeast
french setting, medium crust, 2 lbs size.

Its lovely! if you fancy a more softer bread for sandwiches then use the sandwich setting instead of the french.
Ive not bought a loaf of bread since i bought this machine. You get about 3 loafs from one 1.5kilo bag of bread flour and the flour, if you buy supermarket own flour is usually around the 90p mark.....3 loaves for 90p!

  • Just got mine and figuring out how to use it. Is it OK to grease it with ordinary veg oil or should I be using something else? Do I take it that you can't wash bread pan in washing up bowl? Also I can't see anywhere how long it takes for a normal loaf but I know people put them on overnight?? As you can tell I'm a complete novice and the family think it will be another of those gadgets that will join the juicer, mixer, blender, etc in the back of the cupboard so I'd like to prove them wrong.
mamashango - how long did it take for the recipe you suggested please?
    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

  • Ordered yesterday but didn't pick up until today however the very nice assistant got the manager to over-ride the till price and I paid yesterdays price. Will open it tomorrow and have a go. I've tried one before but with limited success but I liked the idea of the "fast bake" programme on this one and the fact you can set the timer so hopefully it can bake away through the night.

I dont bother to grease mines as its non stick and the bread slides out when done. You can wash the baking tin but not the machine, but a damp cloth over the inside and out is fine as long as no water gets to the element. I find the hoover with the crevis tool works a treat to clean up any loose flour inside the machine. A typical loaf takes about 3 hours to do, my recipe if on the french setting takes 3 hours 50m, 3 hours if on sandwich setting. Hope that helps.:p
