I've got that breadmaker in white, I bought it earlier this year for about the same price. It's a good little breadmaker and makes a decent loaf, although I mainly use it for pizza dough or dough to cook rolls in the oven.

  • I have that breadmaker too, I've had it for about 6 months and it's a great little machine. I've worked out the perfect 2lb white bread mix

    500g white strong bread flour
    7g sachet easy blend yeast
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    300ml warm water
1 and a half teaspoon salt

No need for powder milk or sugar like the recipe book tells you to put.
  • Thanks lotusflower,I have a cheese and onion breadmix packet in it just now, just to see how it copes, thankfully the packet had bread machine instructions on the back as i dont see any guidelines for breadmachines in the "manual".
im gonna set it up overnight with your recipe, fingers crossed for some nice warm bread in the morning.Good to see a recipe like yours,I was a bit shocked that some of the recipes ask for 2 tablespoons of sugar, that seems excessive.

When i was wanting to get a breadmaker i looked at the Cookworks simply because they were so much cheaper, but after reading on here so many shouting out the virtues of the Panny decided it was better to pay more than get something that may be left at the back of the cupboard after only a couple of uses.

believe it or not i did try the panasonic SD254,loaves always looked perfect, but were damp inside, and they took sooooo long,up to 5 hrs seems excessive,in its defence it did seem to have an illfitting lid,so i dunno if that caused the problem..perhaps if this one doesnt work out to well i will try the panasonic again..Family arent too keen on breadmaker bread for lunch sandwiches etc,so we agreed to buy good quality sliced bread, but use the breadmaker for "chunky"bread for soup ,flavoured bread and things like gingerbread, pizza dough and rolls.therefore im hoping this cheaper model will be good enough.
PS,forgot to add, just seen the Kenwood BM450 is £87 in Amazon just now...if this wee machine dioesnt work, then im going for the kenwood :)

  • Thanks OP. I have been deliberating over one for ages, at that risk I can take the risk of it spending too much time in the cupboard! Just went on to check stock and reserve but the site seems to be temporarily down-there is an offer on for free delivery until the end of today with a £20 spend though!
  • Update,so far so good,I am impressed...packet mix turned out very good(only gripe is that the paddle was inbedded deep in the bread therefore it left a bigger hole than usual cos i had to "dig"for it a hook is supplied for this)
Overnight loaf has turned out fantastic, didnt have enough white bread flour left to make lotusflower's recipe,so made a 50/50 wholemeal/white and i am very pleased with the results, perfect little 1.5lb loaf, and the paddle stayed in the breadopan this time...gonna try a gingerbread or similar later.

oooh could you please point me in the direction of the code for that? with free delivery i think it's worth it to buy this breadmaker!

i never use mine to actually bake the bread, quite frankly i'm not a crust eater and breadmachine bread is sooo crusty but i do love making dough in them (saves my poor hands as i have problems with RSI) then i just do whatever i need to the dough and put it in the oven, and no huge mess! so i should think even a basic machine would do me fine as long as it has a dough setting :p

now i can save my hands AND the mess which really puts me off breadmaking
