OS Daily Thread - Guy Fawkes Day

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 5th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,
Lowesy - my friend went there straight from school too and has never worked anywhere else! Not many of those people left.
Rosy - the first thing Tris does when he comes round from any op is ask for his laptop or phone... lol. I am always amazed too.
Rachel - Glad to hear you are feeling better now hon
Molly - that is awful news, those boys are so young. And sorry to hear about your pet too, it's heartbreaking when we lose one.

I had a couple of texts from Tristan, but they were very short and a bit muddled so I am guessing he isn't quite himself yet. I thought I would log on for an hour anyway just in case. And I get to post on here so it's not like I am hanging around for nothing.

Well I managed to negociate a good deal with Virgin. I am paying the same amount per month but have faster broadband, a free wireless router and cheap international calls so I am pretty chuffed. The extra £3.50 I should have paid they are going to refund for 12 months. I know its only a small amount but my calls to America are only 3p a min now and we get the router which means we can sell on our new one. (I bought it about a month ago for £32 with some Amazon vouchers)

Dinner will be ham and eggs and baked potatoes with a salad. Lunch will be left over meatball and tomato pasta from last night. Put chilli in the meatballs, it was lovely,

I hope you all have a good day. With love, light andghug.gif for everyone who would like one.

Hi all. I've been MIA lately due to my first French cold which has left me thick-headed and runny-nosed. I think it's on its way out but it's taking its time. I'm trying not to complain, though, because it is only a cold, and not something that will be with me all the time. I admire anyone who lives with illness and pain every day, and a cold is nothing.

MSD - sorry Tris is not himself. Glad you've got a good deal with Virgin.

Well, OS-wise, I've just been doing basic housew**k and spending the afternoons either crocheting, reading (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon - a brilliant if disturbing read) or sleeping.

I bought a bargain amount of onions the other day and made batches and batches of onion soup, which has been delicious and the perfect comfort food for someone with cold. Today, I am turning a chicken carcass into a casserole with leeks and mushrooms - more comfort food which is great in the gloomy damp weather we are having at the moment. Puddings have been fresh fruit salads with some delicious oranges, grapes and so on, so I'm not short of Vit C at the moment.

DH's finger, after our trip to hospital again last Friday, seems to be OK. They said a nurse would be phoning to arrange a home visit on Tuesday but no-one phoned and no-one turned up, so we changed the dressings ourselves. A nurse should be coming every other day so she may turn up today - or she may not.

It seems strange not to hear fireworks at this time of year but the French, of course, don't celebrate it. Hope you all have a good and safe one!

Well, I'm off to put the kettle on again.

Hope you all have a good day. I'll try and catch up with yesterday's thread a bit later.

    KathyXX

Molly - just edited to send condolences and lots of (((hugs))) to your friends and their family for their tragic loss in Afghanistan. What dreadful news and what a terrible waste of a young life.

    Morning all,

Happy Birthday to Betheebe :bdaycake:Have a great day, and you must pop in more often :naughty::D

Well I have been waking up earlier and earlier over the last few weeks, it was 4 this morning, so tossed and turned for a bit and gave in at 5 and got up , have swished and swiped the kitchen but cant do much more as the others are still in bed. I think its a sign of getting older when you naturally wake earlier :rolleyes:

Off to work again today, dinner tonight will be something with chips, we always have chips on a Thursday, its a nice quick cheap meal, will possibly have fish fingers, and a few veggie fingers that I bought for dd and she doesn't like.

Sainsbugs also delivering tonight, and I will probably do another wash, and get it on the airer.

Terrible news about the five soldiers killed in Afgan, my thoughts go out to their poor familys.

Molly, terrible news for you too, big hugs hun xx

Hope you all have a good day xx

    Morning everyone.
Up at the crack of dawn with kids as usual. They both now have very chesty coughs, DD in particular still feeling very sorry for herself and throwing the most almighty strop because I had the audacity to lie her down to change her. My neighbour is a saint to put up with the noise at 5.30am :o

right my leisurely mornings will come to an abrupt halt. From today I am providing wrap around care for a 7 year old girl. she's coming at 8am. So I have to be ready and dressed for her by then  Normally on an easy day it would be 9am - this is going to be a culture shock.....no more surfing on and off until we get dressed. How will I cope :rotfl:

Had a productive baking session late yesterday. Peanut butter biscuits and twinks hobnobs and more nutella added this time. Not bad but still can't say they taste awfully nutella like. Think I shall stick the original receipe from now on and just eat the nutella from the jar ;)

Tea tonight is a makeshift unless I can think of something else in the meantime. Should be playing badminton tonight but we forgot to book the court!

Diva - :rotfl: @ Tris asking for his phone or laptop. I think my H would be the same about his blackberry - it's never out of his hand

Molly - very sorry to hear of your DS's friend xx And for the loss of one of your fur babies. Pets they may be but they are still family in my eyes xx

Essex-girl - thanks for explaining hopi ear candle.....been wondering what that is all day!

mioliere - hope your cold is better soon.

Right better head off and have a coffee before the rush to get ready starts.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

    Morning everyone.

Having my usual half hour before I make breakfast ;)

I'm going up to my Mum & Dad's this morning to help them with their new digibox. I tried to talk them through it on the phone last night but things were getting more & more confused. I be they're not the only ones in this region to be confused either

Apart from that it's the usual ironing, tidying, cleaning and cooking for today. The WM is on its 2nd load of the day then it'll all be going on the maidens upstairs. I'm also going to look at another nursing home for MIL.

Breakfast, for the children as I never have any, is pancakes. I made the batter last night just before bed & left it in the fridge so it only needs a quick stir before cooking them. Lunch will be at Mum's so probably hm soup & a sandwich and dinner is fish, mash & beans.

Have a good day & hugs for any that need them.

Edited to add: :bdaycake:Happy Birthday Betheebe

Good morning all, weather is a bit grey at the moment, and rather chilly so I have stuck the heating on for an hour to warm the house up.
Where has this week got to Its almost the weekend again the time seems to be flying by just lately.I had a nice suprise yesterday afternoon my brother appeared on my doorstep,he is on a very brief flying visit from where he lives in France. He couldn't stay more than about an hour as he had to see his DD in Sevenoaks and his DS in Bromley and he is only here for two days. But it was great to see him none the less. He hasn't been over for about 18 months and said how busy the traffic seems to him.He lives out in the sticks about 10 miles from Ruffec. If he sees more than a dozen cars in a week its been busy there !
he said he is hoping to come back in the spring for a bit longer, so he may pop up then. it was nice to see him though as yesterday it was 8 years since our other brother had died.He also squeezed a short time in with my sis-in-law which was nice as she does get quite down at this time of year.
Have managed to get through the week without needing any shopping which I am pleased about and last night had some bacon, mushroomss and bubble and squeak for dinner .Delicious and took me back to wwhen I was a little girl.
Only problem is how to get rid of the cabbagey smell in the house afterwards.I love cabbage but hate that lingering odour, any ideas chums, bit too cold to throw windos and doors open to the elements.
well this morning I have the school run again with my little chaps, there are such good fun and we have lots of giggles on the way.
Hope everyone has a nice day take care all

    Morning All

Very grey here this morning and I'm feeling particularly sluggish but on the bright side its my last working day today and then my weekend starts.

I would have up until recently had a drink of something most nights - its ok i'm not a secret raging alcoholic! maybe a glass or two of wine during the week and a vodka or three on a weekend but for some reason i've just gone off the whole idea drinking. I had a couple of glasses of wine with my SIL last friday and nothing since - which isn't like me! I can't decide whether its because i'm on the grocery challenge and alcohol feels like a waste of money or i'm getting too old for hangovers! and no i'm not pregnant!:D

Eggs are nearly boiled - egg and onion sandwiches for lunch today and fajitas for tea so i'm away

Have a happy and healthy day
