Buyer wants to return as it doesn't fit

But neither is it their fault! This is really winding me up, you can't lay the blame at the hands of the buyer if an item doesn't fit them. I agree that neither is it the sellers fault, but the decent thing to do would be to give a refund, I agree without any postage costs. You could claim your FVF's back via a mutual agreement, so there is no need to burden the buyer with this.

When selling items such as clothing you must always expect that the item may not fit the buyer, especially when selling at distance. The huge problem with internet shopping of course is that the buyer cannot inspect goods before purchase, and so will not be able to tell if the item is the right fit etc.

I don't see why the buyer should have to go through the rigmarole of having to list and sell the item themselves elsewhere, no online shop would ask you to do this and for me selling on eBay has to be the same. I sell on eBay myself and although some buyers do frustrate me, if it is something as genuine as this and they're asking for a refund I will always issue it to them, on safe return of goods and of course if they're in the exact same condition as when they left, which means tags still intact, no perfume on clothing etc.

it looks like they are treating ebay like a catalogue shop - buying several outfits, trying them all on and decideing which they like the best and as yours also cost the most - they decided to get the money back from your sale

id say to them that as the item is now opened, it isnt in the same state as you sold it, and would either them tough you arent a catalogue or if you are extremely generous will do a partial refund as you wouldnt get as much if you resold it

ive bought many clothes that havent fitted - thats my fault for not checking or asking for measurements before i bought - the only real time its the seller fault is if you sold it as a size 18 and it was a completely different size

A lot of advice here, thanks you. Going by past purchases they should know what size to buy. The only thing is if i did offer a refund by the time they posted it back (I was £7.40 for SD) then minus the postage they paid and something to cover my fees they would have lost a fair bit. Don't really think they would go for it. I think i will tell them no refund and if they are insistent then i may offer a refund but do the same as above.

I offered a buyer a refund three weeks ago as the item they bought, where all the measurements were listed didn't fit. However as at today it has still not been returned and when I last emailed her she got a bit stroppy and said she doesn't get to the Post Office very often so I'll have to wait.

So my suggestion would be for my own, and other peoples refunds to maybe put a time frame on it? Say something along the lines of 'return it within a week and I will refund item cost rather than let them take the mickey like this.

That's the idea yeah. You'll notice for business sales there is a minimum of 7 days offered for the return of items. This is the length of time I always offer for my returns, and it states this on my auction. If a product is returned after this time then I am no longer obliged to refund the buyer.

Also I didn't realise the buyer had been refunded on a couple of similar items recently/or bough a couple of similar items, so judge every case on its individual merit as well.

I wouldn't refund I'm afraid, it's not faulty, ok, so it's not the buyers fault, but buying from ebay is a bit like buying from the local boot sale or from the local paper - if you bought something from your boot sale and it didn't fit, would you go back the next week in the hope they would be there again and ask for a refund? I wouldn't!!! I've bought clothes for the kids in the past from ebay, and what doesn't fit I've just sold back on, would never occur to me to ask for a refund - ebay is a gamble, some you win, some you lose, if they wanted to try it on first, they should have gone into Next and bought it from there and paid the extra, or at least have tried on a Next dress to see what size they would be, ok maybe a bit OTT to suggest that, but surely everyone knows that clothes size alter from make to make and there is no guarantee it would fit? The dress has now been tried on, is going to show some signs of handling, and is likely to have some scent from the person trying it on, therefore, if the OP was to accept a return and then resell it as new again, she could come across problems from the new buyer saying it clearly isn't new?
