This is a similar Point, The thread surprisingly is still in existance
It's not just a matter of reporting bad sellers who break rules. it's far more complex than that. Eg. their rule bending listings do adversely affect ad placements of those who respect the rules and place them at a disadvantage besides the wrongdoers.

I wonder if the vigilantes have worked through the first pages of book and magazine sellers yet to take down?

How about 'if you don't like the policies then don't use ebay'? You will find someone that will bid, there are vigilante buyers out there right now taking down sellers so when they pay the item cost and no postage what then? Shall we expect some foot stamping and cries of 'it isn't fair?'

I agree with you on the first part. With regard to the second: you have to remember that when you place a bid on an item on ebay it is a binding contract and not paying is breaking that contract.

If the auction clearly states the postage charges then you would naturally expect the person bidding has accepted them when they bid. If not, then they shouldn't be bidding.

In future auctions I may add this to my description so there are no doubts.

I eagerly look forward to your Post '

I've been Negged because I didnt use a Courier!'

That hasn't happened to me so far. As I said in my original post: all my charges are upfront and there are NO secret charges. Each postage charge is clearly shown for both inland and Europe and the U.S. I offer other postage methods and I even give the link to the website I use to calculate them.

I think this is a fairer way than adding costs to the opening bid or adding them after the person has won, don't you think?

question: if you were selling a magazine from a series that is now not available, can this be counted as a 'collectable'; as surely it has become a collectors item now??

Yes, the magazines I sell are collectable (and are sold as such) and therefore more sought after than a regular magazine.

There are also lots of auctions with "I will not be held responsible for items lost in the post" which is never the case for the seller. If what is written in the listing goes against the rules of where they are written or the law then no contract can be upheld.
    .
  • For the record I don't put that in my auctions.

You seem still don't appear to understand that you cannot over rule the ebay policies. You can put in foot high print if you want that you only take Zlotys in payment but since ebay say you must accept paypal you couldn't refuse paypal. Likewise put what you want in your listings, but buyer only has to pay as per ebay rules.

My question would still be what will you do if you list a 99p book showing free postage but in your auction you say that there will be £2 postage to pay, and buyer pays 99p? You obviously can't NPB them, you can't neg them and you can't report them for anything. They however can report you as a non performing seller and neg you.

    Worth the risk?

Thread 4 on the community boards this morning is another thread about problems with the non compliant sellers it is titled '80%+ of listers Cheat HELP! eBay Ruling please James '

In fact half the first page are threads about free p and p and sellers breaking the rules now I've looked. No doubt many of the threads will be gone once an ebay employee logs in so read them quickly for a variety of views.

  • I will admit that I have and will neg these sellers.
Nice to see I'm not alone from the ebay forums.

We don't sell in the media categories, but they are a huge draw for buyers, and if ebay gets a reputation for being overly confusing, then it will indirectly impact on sales.

Most of the sellers doing this are private, occasional sellers who won't realise the damage they are doing by trying to save themselves a few pence in fees.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

No it isnt a fairer way, unless you are stating somewhere hidden in all that ^ that you dont use royal mail for deliveries ?

Im amazed some sellers find it so difficult, the rules have changed so either follow them or go elsewhere

"With regard to the second: you have to remember that when you place a bid on an item on ebay it is a binding contract and not paying is breaking that contract."

I think you also have to remember that you have entered into a contract with Ebay to sell as-per their rules, which you arent doing if you charge for postage !!
