Just out of interest, at the risk of sounding a bit stupid, does anyone know the reason for this change? I always list my books after reading them, was happy doing so,then all of a sudden I cant charge postage on them, think games and dvds might be the same?? Is this so that you build postage into your starting price and therefore have to pay for the listing with it being over 99p??? I cant think of any other reason? If I'm right, thats a bit naughty!!!!!!
You can list for free on Amazon and charge postage, their selling fees are a bit higher though..0 -
Saw a listing last night that said 'for some reason ebay wont let me put a postage price', erm surely a trs should know the reason? Trying it on or what.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Having sold many magazines for over a year now on ebay I was a little annoyed when ebay bought in a Free Postage Option.
Yes, there are ways around it - as mentioned here - by listing the postage type as Courier/Heavy Items, or in categories that don't insist on free postage.
I'm loathe to add the postage charge to the starting bid as it detracts people from bidding, and, I feel, a little underhand. Also, most of my magazines start at 0.99 and therefore, with one picture, are free to list.
Therefore, to circumnavigate this, I admit I do use the Courier/Heavy Items option, and clearly state the postage charges to my description.
I don't see why I should post magazines out for free to people as it costs me to do so. Typical postage charges on a magazine via first class would be around £3.00, including the cost of a Jiffy Bag. Unlike some sellers my postage costs are upfront and are based on weight and destination. I DO NOT make any profit from postage. They are always well wrapped - including cardboard to prevent bending - and so the buyers get what they paid for.
I've had no complaints so far and have not been reported for listing my auctions this way.
When all is said and done, if the postage cost is not listed then ask the seller for a costing. If you don't get a response, or you don't like the costs, then DON'T BID!
Sorry, just had to get that off my chest!Life's what you make it....

Life beyond voluntary work scares me, but what else is there?0 -

Actually no. Ebay won't let you enter a postage cost if it's listed in certain categories. Believe me, I've tried!Life's what you make it....

question: if you were selling a magazine from a series that is now not available, can this be counted as a 'collectable'; as surely it has become a collectors item now??0

I wonder if the vigilantes have worked through the first pages of book and magazine sellers yet to take down?Flyingdutchman When all is said and done, if the postage cost is not listed then ask the seller for a costing. If you don't get a response, or you don't like the costs, then DON'T BID!
How about 'if you don't like the policies then don't use ebay'? You will find someone that will bid, there are vigilante buyers out there right now taking down sellers so when they pay the item cost and no postage what then? Shall we expect some foot stamping and cries of 'it isn't fair?'I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. These threads are being pulled all the time, there have been dozens of vigilante threads from the big sellers fed up of the little guys thinking themseleves clever by trying to get round the rules. On one of them yesterday someone posted something that I thought was very sensible, they said that these sellers trying to cheat the system will bring us all down as if buyers get the impression that we are all out to get them by adding in secret charges then they will just stop buying from any bookseller and go to Amazon instead. It therefore makes sense for all media sellers to report and take down sellers who breach the rules, as ultimately they will ruin our living.
I thought it quite a thought provoking view.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
