Email Spam

Can I just point out to the powers that be, that sending out unsolicited emails to people is called spam and your ISP etc really doesnt like it as I dont either.
What am I talking about?
Well this wonderful forum has taken my domain, stuck a name on the front of it for an email address ie it DOESNT exist ... and keeps sending me emails despite me asking to be removed for the last four months.
I am now well and truly fed up with this place breaking the law!!!
I would like an explantion as to where you got the email address from as I said it doesnt exist, so it comes to my catch all email address instead.
I thought this place was supposed to be ethical??

It's not this site that does that. Spammers have programs that scan ISPs and pick all sort of email addresses and send spam there.
I get all sort of spam to my own address FROM my own address (apparently), on both the address I use for my work and the one I use for this forum and others.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Hi
If it's not spam as Quasar described, but our weekly email that you mean, that only goes to email addresses that have been signed up to receive it.
If you haven't signed it up yourself then is it possible a friend has added you using a wrong email address, thinking you'd appreciate receiving it?
If you enter the email it's going to in the box on the right hand side, change the radial button to "Stop it" and click Go that should work.

Andrea, the quote in bold from the OP is what I meant and what is happening to me. I get spam from my own address with a different name in front of the @, so that it looks like it comes from me.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
yes it is otherwise known as spoofed mail.0

It a thing called a "catch all" address. When you own a domain, this is very common (but can usually be turned off if not required). In essence, it ignores whatever is in from of the @ part of the email address and send it to the default mailbox address.
OP - I very much doubt the email you receive originates from MSE (unless it's their weekly email that would have been subscribed to)
You need to understand how to read email headers to understand the real source ... but that is unlikely to help you much.
Best options are:
(a) turn off your catch all address, or
(b) if the email is always addressed exactly the same, simply block that address, or
(c) set up other filters to prevent the spam.
The use of spam filtering software may also be of benefit. This may be available from your domain host or Mailwasher is particularly good, imo, allowing you to remove any spam directly from your mail server (before downloading to your pc) although you will need the one off payment version to handle multiple email accounts.
However, do not ever bounce spam. It either creates unwanted email traffic to innocent parties, or worse still confirms to a spammer that your email address is live if they actually use a genuine return address."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hmmm.
Tell me if I'm being thick or this is so obvious that it doesn't need saying, but could this not be a case of someone getting the email and replacing MSE's affiliate links with their own and them sending them on?
I know my bloke gets his email a day or two before me sometimes, so they'd have time. This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0
