HTC Magic or Iphone?

Hi all, I hope you can help.

My mobile phone contract with o2 ends on the 6th December and I'm in 2 minds as to what to do.

Currently I pay £40 a month for 600 minutes and 500 texts (plus 500 extra free texts every month for being a long term customer). I also have to pay each time I use the web on my phone.

I've got my eye on the HTC Magic with Vodafone - one of their contracts is £30 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. A much better deal, obviously.

However, when I come to ring o2 this Friday (1 month's notice), I'm tempted to see what they can offer me for the iphone. My question is this (and I know it comes down to preference with most people so arguments for and against would be helpful) - if o2 can match Vodafone with the Iphone, would I be better sticking with them? Or should I go ahead and move over to Vodafone and get the HTC Magic?

Argh, decisions, decisions!!!!

First off have you spoken to vodafone? They will offer you much better deals than they offer on the website if you speak to them on the phone.

I got the magic at launch (fantastic phone) on the contract you are talking about for £25.00 (18 months) so they should be able to do similar.

If you are considering an iphone, just total up the overall cost of the contract and handset, then if you still want one, i'd suggest you call a shrink ;)

I've got to admit I've always been very anti-Iphone which is why I wanted the Magic in the first place but, if o2 were willing to give me a much better deal on what is probably the Magic equivalent, then I wanted to know whether it was worth considering.

Thanks for the info about Vodafone. The deal on the website was a good start, if I speak to them in store then it's good to know I may get an even better deal!

I'm not 100% on this but think you'll get a better deal over the phone. -

Have you considered the HTC Hero? (its called the G2 on T-Mobile)

Thats the SIM only deal with O2. If its between the Magic and the Hero, the Hero wins everytime although it isn't available on Vodafone. More phone for your money, and a slightly better interface.

I have played with both and the iPhone was much more responsive and has tonns of apps... Im likely to try an android phone in a couple of years - I think it will be a smashing OS after a couple of years.

I went with a 3Gs and love it. Currently on 600 minutes, 1200 text and unlimited internet for £20 (02).
