Thanks for that advice on waitrose, i was looking to see where it actually was yesterday because iv never been to it, and i dont know my way around portsmouth to well. Im from weston super mare myself.
hampshires local produce is apparently Watercress, i need to do abit more research into the local dishes but id assume it would involve that in some way.
Iv decided as part of the project that i am going to cook the recipes i find, i love cooking and i have to test what im advertising right?
Waitrose is on Marmion Road: go to the top of Palmerston Road (if you know where that is?), by the church, and follow the road round to the right - Waitrose is tucked round the corner. The recipe cards always used to be on racks by the tills, if I remember correctly.
Local produce for Hampshire is definitely watercress (lovely stuff it is too!). I'd also nominate game (venison and rabbit in particular) and free range pork, both from the New Forest. I don't know of any specific recipes, though.
And I'd definitely agree with your last point - you can't recommend a recipe unless you've tried it out, can you? Please let me know if you need any help eating the results - I'm always happy to oblige!:D

Edited to add: I've just googled traditional Lancashire food and the result was fairly disappointing here There must be some good fish recipes as we have a good coastline? If there are any native Lancastrians reading I'd love to know more about the food of my adopted county.

EDIT : I dislike the fact that iplayer only keeps shows for something like 7 days, However i have found The Hairy Bikers' Food Tour of Britain book, and they have it in waterstones on commerical road, i shall pick it up tomorrow0 -

Just got back from waitrose! One hell of a walk
Purchased some Hampshire breed Cumberland pork sausages, John Hurds Wiltshire and dorset Organic Watercress and some Hampshire Heather honey roast gammon ham.
I also found some Hampshire honey which looked nice but i didnt purchase,
Recipes i picked up included-
Chunky Fish soup
Sausage and lentil Hotpot
Crispy chicken with sweetcorn relish
Banoffee puds
Beetroot and goats cheese gratin
and a lime and chilli pork satay (Yummy)
I also picked up 2 free magazines and paid for waitrose food illustrated.
all in all a good trip, even managed to get some sneaky pictures on my iphone as i walked round (the iphone also helped me get there with its route guidance woohoo)0 -

I like the idea of recipe cards and no wouldn't pay for them like most people. Am really interested in old local recipes and always try to eat locally so I would find this a draw.
Although, living in Kent, renowned for apple orchards, I might be less sceptical of the supermarkets' motives when they stop stocking foreign apples and really promote local ones and not just bung in a recipe card promotion.

The Hampshire Hog springs to mind looking at your location - the pig's nothing special it was the cure that made it sought after, also strawberries, honey, hops and vines, sea salt from the pans at Lymington adn venison from the New Forest. (I've spent too many years in Hampshire, currently just south of you, though I daren't claim to be in Hampshire to any of the 'locals'.) But my family comes from sussex and there are some fabulous recipes such as pond pudding and well pudding (people tend to get these mixed up, pond pudding includes a whole lemon, well pudding contains dried fruit), heavies and blanket (like rolypoly).
You could do worse than to google regional recipes, there are numerous sites devoted to collecting traditional/regional specialities. There are such wonderful names as well - I couldn't eat it but doesn't 'stargazey pie' sound magical?!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

If you want to use your local area to provide the examples for your work, you might be able to get some help & support from Hampshire Fare or the Hampshire Farmers Markets. Markets this weekend are in Alton on Saturday and Winchester (reputedly one of the best in the country) on Sunday.
Local produce includes watercress, trout, venison, rare breed meats, fruit & veg, and many of these people should be able to help you with traditional local dishes.
