My boyfriend and I are due to move into our first house next month, and are looking for a reasonably priced broadband connection. There isn't currently a phone line connected in the house, so after the £11.25 BT line rental each month we're not wanting to spend too much more.

We're in the North of Scotland, and many providers aren't that great for this area. I have a Vodaphone PAYG dongle, and can only pick up GPRS signal, which is super slow at loading pages and can get a bit frustrating.

I looked on broadbandchecker.co.uk to see what services were available in our area and they said Plusnet was one of them. On looking at their website, they have a £5.99 for first 3 months then £11.99 a month after package (www .plus.net). So with the line rental would be £23.24, which is okay. I know we won't get decent broadband for much cheaper, and I like that we can be with them without a 12 month contract.

But I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Plusnet? Whether their connection was good and stable etc.

Any help would be really appreciated! :j

They're OK, but the Plusnet Value package you're referring to has a 10GB monthly cap, and they do traffic shape at peak hours. I've always found their CS to be pretty good.
However there is a 12m minimum contract unless you pay an extra £30 at the start.
What are the LLU options (if any) on your exchange? These should be the cheapest.

OK, no LLU at all, Market 1 exchangeThen I reckon Plusnet @ 11.99 is your best option, subject to the points mentioned before.
Sign up through Quidco and the current cashback is 28 pounds.

I have just signed up for plusnet from madasafish. Same firm but plusnet is much cheaper. I did have some trouble but the help center is in Sheffield and I always got an english speaker on the line. Four calls taking 45 minutes in total but as I use 18185 this only cost 20p.
£5.49 per month with three months free via Martin link.

I have plus-net value at £11.99, live in the sticks so no LLU. I have never had any problems (but use a mac!) I do most of my heavy downloads before 8am, which dont come of the 10g limit.

Plusnet can be a very good option as their limits can be quite good as can their customer service.

A lot of 'cans' there so read all the T&Cs and make sure they are right for you.

You can (sorry, there's another one!) also consider other non-LLU suppliers like the Post Office's BT-flavoured ADSL. https://www.postoffice.co.uk

Shop around, take your time and read the T&Cs.

I am with madasafish and have asked for a MAC key.

Was going to go with BE but they say that I can't have it when I put my phone number in on the website. Is that something to do with LLU then? I know I can't get fast speeds here.

My next option was going to be plusnet. If they are really the same company, do I need a mac key after all?

BE may not be available LLU on your exchange. What are your other LLU options? Either check on samknows.com or post the name of your exchange and someone will advise.
Yes, you will need a MAC to go from Madasafish to Plusnet. They are both ultimately owned by BT, but run independently.
