Barter for your broadband!

Grrrrr all this talk of cheap broadband gets to me - If you live in Hull you can only get Karoo broadband @ £17.99 a month for 512kbps - even by paying annually and getting one month free it still works out at £16.50 per month which is outrageous. Please someone send us some other phone companies to use !
I feel better for my moan0 -
I called tiscali and moaned that I was only getting 512k when for the same price I could get Bulldog which offers 8mb - however the cancelation person said that the slow connection was probably due to my proximity to the exchange - which is true - I am over 2km's away. He said as good will he'd reduce me to £9.99 a month... I get unlimited downloads for this (I download a lot) so I'm not that bothered.
Anyway, who need to pay for broadband when my 2 of my neighbours leave there connections open !!0 -
We've been with tiscali for about 3 months now..... can we still call and threaten to get the cheaper rate, or does it only work after 12 months?0

I threatened to leave Tiscali and they offered me 2mb unlimited for £14.99 / month.
Not bad while I wait for the Talk Talk broadband activation time to reduce.
They did say this was becuase I had been with them for a while, but they might just say that.
Try it they can only say NO.0 -

Most customers that are within 5Km of a BT exchange should be able to get up to 2Mb broadband. Many users in North Devon live further than 7Km from an exchange but are still able to get broadband albeit at the lower rate of 512K. (please note that you cannot measure the distance from the exchange as the crow flies - telephone cables unfortunately do not run in straight lines).
The speed you are able to get relies on the quality of the line from the exchange to your property. The further away from the exchange you live the more cable joints there will be. Each joint degrades the cable quality slightly. Joints are a matter of necessity as cables come in reels of finite lengths.
Most BT exchanges have ADSL equipment installed that is capable of speeds up to 8Mb. However to get this speed you would probably have to live within 1Km of the exchange.0 -
I too am only paying £9.99! Didn't even realise until I was discussing it with a colleague at work Seems they reward loyalty as have been with them a couple of years now.0

I can't believe people are still paying £20 or more for broadband, I've managed to get connected for 11,75 a month with discountadsl.co.uk.
I don't see much point in getting anything more than 512k, always been more than enough for using the internet.Tight fisted accountant since birth.0 -
Well, its not hard to believe, seeing as people's use of the internet changes, with more downloading of media content, streaming of audio & video. For example, there are many streams of video content at 1.5Mbps available now - not possible on your line of 512Kbps.GerardL wrote:I can't believe people are still paying £20 or more for broadband, I've managed to get connected for 11,75 a month with discountadsl.co.uk.

More people are multi-computer homes now too - so 512Kbps can soon be max'd out if in use by a couple of people at once. Just couple of people listening to 128Kbps streams of audio (eg internet radio), would be using a massive chunk of your 512Kbps connection.
And at £11.75, I doubt you have very much of a bandwidth cap.
Therefore, its quite easy to understand why people would pay over £20 for a higher bandwidth, higher useage cap product.0 -
Hi everyone hope this might help anyone, my friend signed up to talktalk in april/may when it was launched, he did have some problems, mainly with the poor communication skills of talktalk, but today he had problems getting on the internet, so he rang his ISP, guess what he's not with them anymore he's now with talktalk as of today, and on 6.5mb so he rang them got his username amd PW and bob's your uncle he's up and running again, although he's still waiting for he's welcome pack and it would have been nice if they actually told him he'd be switching over today, but not everyone's perfect, the main thing is it's works and it's alot better than my 2mb's I'll let you all know if he has anyother problems with it. T

Well a huge thanks for this :T
I've just called Tiscali saying that I'm thinking of changing my broadband provider because all those better deals out there - and they have immediately reduced my monthly bill from £14.99 to £9.99!!! Have just about been with them a year, so they were happy to do this, with no changes to my contract!!
Am sooooo pleased :j0
