If you've decided not to go for the super cheap TalkTalk package (see The UK's Cheapest Home Phone Calls Provider) you can still stick but save. With the launch of the TalkTalk deal companies are fighting hard to retain custom giving you powerful leverage.
One MoneySaver contacted me to report he called Tiscali and told them he was thinking of changing, they instantly dropped the price by £2/month without any extra tie-ins. So give it a go and see what you can save.

If you were already on the £14.99 1MB unlimited package, then you can/could reduce it to £12.99 a month by using Tiscali's Upgrade/Downgrade section in My Account.
I did this even though I had already signed up for TalkTalk's Talk3 International package but, because I had to wait about five weeks for broadband to be enabled, I decided I might as well save a few pounds in the meantime...:-)
To its credit, Tiscali charged slightly less than £12.99 as it was not a full month that followed the price changeover.
But whichever way you look at it, the TalkTalk offer is so superior there's little point in sticking with Tiscali, even though it is set to launch an up to 8MB service from (probably) late August.
If Tiscali had brought in 8MB earlier when it became available, it might not have found itself losing so many of its subscribers.0 -
One other point. People who are with Pipex and paying quite high prices for 512kbps or 1MB services, have successfully got a 2MB connection and end up paying around £5 less a month merely by asking for a MAC code to allow them to migrate to another ISP.
Usually they are asked why they wish to leave and, if you mention TalkTalk for example, they get offered a much better deal to stay.0 -
Although this thread started nearly a year ago, the impact of the TalkTalk offer has meant that NTL/Telewest are offering better deals to their broadband only customers

and I'm sure Pipex are offering reductions but I can't find the thread/posts at the moment
edited to add, as Stuart says in his post while I was looking

I've been on Tiscali unlimited broadband £14.99 for over 12 months and was all set to change as I'm moving house, however as soon as I mentioned it to the lady in the cancellation dept (funnily enough in the UK, unlike the customer services) she instantly told me that as I'd been with them for so long she was able to reduce my monthly payment to £9.99 with no new tie in period, needless to say with that saving I'm staying put!
I just hope I never have to phone their customer service line as it's the pits!0 -
I've been with Pipex for over 3 years now and have been on 1mb for 1.5 years. I rang them today to request the MAC Code and they asked why I was leaving. I said I can get it cheaper elsewhere and explained. Turns out that because I seem to average just over 10gb of downloads per month that they could not help me and so goodbye Pipex. They were not very helpful with giving me the MAC Code and stated it would take at least 72 hours for me to receive it.0

Hi, I am with fast 4 dial up, at £6.99 a month unlimited, I rang them to see if they could do me an offer on broadband, they quoted £47 for bt connection and would take ten pounds off that as I was an existing customer, but would not do any better than that as I had not been with them for two years, when it would be free!! Then I have the modem to buy! Cheaper to get my own, however, without signing up to their telephone offer, it is £11.98 a month unlimited which seems fair enough, do you agree. I am with BT together option 1 and 1899.com Regards oap0

I'm just sorting broadband for flat and I'm looking out for a reasonable broadband only package.
£11 line rental from BT
+primus cashback deal (£2.50 profit per month)
+ half decent broadband at, say, £20 per month
total £28.50, not that much more than talktalk, and hopefully without the problems.Happy chappy0 -

Have you thought about using Primus broadband0 -

After reading this thread, I logged into my Tiscali account to see which broadband package I was currently on and discovered that I’ve been paying £19.99 a month for 512k when 2MB is £17.99! I’ve just upgraded, but I’m furious with Tiscali for continuing to charge me that much for such a slow connection. A stern email will be winging its way to them very soon. I will also be asking for some kind of compensation for all this extra money I’ve been paying out every month. Fingers crossed I’ll get something…0
