why not just slave the hdd from the old computer and copy the files that way?

Aldi had some medion external drives 250 Gb for £99.99 and 320 Gb for £119.99. They come with a 3 year warranty too.

Connected via USB. Plug and play and really sweet. Read the reviews on Amazon and you'll see. Also the build quality feels fantastic. I use windows XP and it is really just a question of plugging the USB and that is it. Comes with software (extra) but I only used the bit that would cause the HD to go into standby after a set amount of time to save energy. In addition to the USB, it comes with the power adapter (externally powered).

there'd need to be to slave a drive :)

just trying to save you a wedge of cash bud ;)

you change your mind about slaving your old drive to your new comp I'll do a nice easy to follow step by step guide if you like, even take piccy's for you :) it's really a piece of cake, just setting jumpers right is only niggle for most folk.

anywho, ebuyer doing a nice 250G Seagate external drive for a mere £74.99 inc vat.
I'd have a seagate ahead of most except WD tbh.

I bought this drive about a couple of months ago - the price has dropped somewhat since then - I think it was £85-£90 then. It is highly recommended. Very fast using USB 2.0 Also it is extremely quiet - as you'd expect with seagate drives. I have bought 5 hard drives in the past 4 years - all Seagate and all are still going strong - only reason for buying new ones has been to increase capacity or for builing a new PC!

    Firstly: (!!!!!!) is "brinky"?

Secondly: One phrase "a fool and his money are easily parted".

Good advice niceguyrichy. Just recently did the same myself.
