Will you do so once the child costs are ended?
.then there's the morgage to clear and house needs some serious work doing to it one day as the tenants lived in it hard,...then there are some hols to catch up on...then I would like to save up for a shed on Chesil Beach...and so the list goes on.
I reckon, by the time I had the spare £££ (truly spare) I will be about 108 and , so, would be far too expensive to make me look 35 again.
The work on the older ladies in Ugly Betty (fave prog) puts me off too...scary. I joke about it, but don't think I would as I like to feel I am above 'vanity' ......or too busy to be vain enough IYSWIM?

Very odd indeed. Is that why the papers always feature expensive clothes, shoes and bags? I know they sometimes do the recession stuff from Primark et al but that always seems to be a concession they don't really see the need for.
I always wonder where these hordes of wealthy fashionistas hang out and feel cheated that they and their expensive tastes are seen as the norm. I can't remember when I last paid more than £10 for a handbag.
It's all a bit of a myth really. Many people I know shop in sample sales, nab freebies or live on water and oats to save up for one key item.
The main spenders are from Arab countries and Russia. My sister in Law is Russian (very...still hates Americans for no tangible reason...yes, I asked why..... as she was brainwashed at school) and Derr and Geerr (D+G) says style panache and substance to her...don't know why but she doesn't shop in M+S as it reminds her of communism.
I own a lot of looxe scarves (as I used to collect them when we did vintage clothing) as I see them a bit like pictures and the artwork and styling depict different styles of each decade.
I wore a 50's Hermes today which was the bottom of an old Hermes dress that I cut off. It cost 10p. I have never paid more than 20p for a silk designer scarf but I did snaffle them all a long time ago when they weren't wanted and were thrown into textile waste.
IF (Big IF) I have £300 spare I would buy a Hermes from the new Liberty range as I wear them all the time and they are warm and cosy.......must be a Noo Noo throwback hang up going on from childhoodBut I won't......cos I live within my means....zzzzzzzzzz.

MAny points:
1. re dopesters link....she says £150k in debt....pai of the house then? Surely £150 plus mortgage debt??? Not all debt is ''bad, but all debt is REAL.
2. Prada Jods. Well, if I get my figure back I might. But you know really I wouldn't. I always bought johds/breeches to compete in (so pretty boring beigey colours, not flattery nor practical for daily wear.) when they get stained/old I dyed them and wore them on the yard. I have a couple of expensive (nd far too small now) breeches in funky colours/styles, but gifts not purchases. Buying breeches the thing is not who made them, but if they help. Kerrits Sit-tights are a big noise at the moment (American still tricky to find here, and are the new must have ''sticky bottoms'' as far as I know) and Sonnenreiter (spelling?) for the boot cuts. Lots of UK suppliers are doing boot cuts now. Its about what either helps you ride or what you can wear to pick up kids from school. Its worth spending a bit when you wear them for work/warmth all day every day, fashion lead designs not so much, thoiugh are popular with teens, and are usually fronted by leading competitive riders (Kyra K seems the teen choice de jour). Jordan's is prominant in the mail order catagues (a populr way to buy horse clothing/equipment). I'm looking for a new coat.....wan modern material for lightness/washbility...the nice ones are a little too little, the Jordan ones are big enough...something to with boob room, but not at all sure they are for me.
3. Scarves/hermes. I've been adapting scarfs for a while now to wear on head. Kotting them just never stays on, but they are so good for hair. What I'd really love from Hermes is the one off winged saddle they made, everyone serious mocked it, but I loved the idea of a saddle that let me pretend I was riding pegasus.0 -
Never heard of this woman before.
But having read this thread and a similar one on HPC, my thoughts on her is that she deserves to die penniless and starving in some stinking gutter while dressed in her designer clobber.

I don't. I might be frustrated with her and annoyed, and I do get hot under the collar about it.
Mainly I get uncomfortale about it. I think her writing, and her spending, are different ''executions'' of...unhappiness? Mental illness? that she writes about of her past. That is what really makes me uncomfortable about it. She talks about when she suffered from anorexia a lot. Now I think she might eat, but the ....unhappiness? Lack of contentedness, is ''indulged'' or kept at bay in these ways.
I think this happens a lot, although I think she is the perfect example. That success is equated with what to me....and I have no foundation/education on which to ase these thoughts...appears to be a sort of mental anguish/suffering, concerns me: because its so ignored, almost indulged in our society: like this case, by continuing to support her,but going further to pass on the message this ''behaviour'' is normal b the endorsement of her, and people like her, in keeping their columns/tv shows etc. It makes this attitude acceptable.
Is it compulsive, are they good at their jos? Sure: most people recognise with anorexia and such ills goes a sort of attempt at perfectionism.0 -
I can't believe both chucky and doepster thanked a post written about the vanity of johdpurs and a hermes ''fantasy'' saddle.0

HPC? HPC???? *Splutters* Why would HPC be interested in LJ?
I have to go have dinner now but read todays Mail column on the train (it took forever as Sunday Service........railways are still back in the 70's as far as service for now is concerned) so I got to read it 3 times and looks like a nice bit of Exmoor farm is going to come onto the market.
Does anyone know how to find out how much her house on Gibson St sold for in N1 2 years ago? Then I could work out her add on mortgage (excluding one she ported freom N1, assuming that she did).
Are people living on or near on Exmoor as ''mean'' as she makes out? Or is it more book fodder?.0 -

Because they are 'In Touch'. Very important in a person to see others pounts of views and whys and wherefores.....as it helps move forwards as an individual. Therapy speak over.0 -

zoopla?
People in the westcountry, as near as 8/ten years ago were obcessed with ''incomers''. Some firends of mine had bricks through their windows, their gretest crime offering to pay for some trees to create a treelined avenue in the village (as it was historically) ''them fancy incomers, wantin' to prettyry things, its not ust thems playground, its a workin' village'' there were two price lists under village shop tills. there were various pranks played.
National parks do have bigger ''issues'' created by there stutus in what is still working land and more share of both the benefits and pitfalls of tourists and ''incomers''. I know someone on the moor who is very angry at their portrayal. Also heard an interview on radio 4 with Liz and a local woman: Liz complained, rather petualntly in a retaliative comment that things were ''friendlier back in London'' didn't seem to see she was making a rod for her own back.
I've never had too much trouble here. But then, I know what a midden is and understand the multiple uses of udder cream. Its fair to say there are pockets of resentment.0
