  • Morning,
Aww well done Fernliebee's DD and well done mummy,it's such a proud moment you're right to be pleased:j

Kindof, yep the sure start childrens are for anyone to make use of the facilities, they used to just be in more deprived areas but are now aiming to have one in every community so all can benefit. As our local one is being built on the grounds of dd's school they have been doing consultations so everyone knows what they have to offer people with small children in the area-ours is due to open in April-just when my lil one is due,Result:j

Oh I want to know about SJ's lil one!!! Congrats SJ but hurry up and tell :D
    Busy mummy of 4.:j

On the Surestart thing- I was talking to a friend who works for them, and she said that lots of the new centres are not surestart centres as such, they are children's centres and aren't funded in quite the same way. She also said that Surestart Centres can be selective as to who uses their facilities, ie having a catchment area etc. It depends entirely on the area and your council though- Leicestershire has an open use policy. Lots of the new centres are basically foundation stage units attached to schools so don't offer much in the way of stuff for mum and baby.
Also, what they run in terms of activities can depend on why the centre was set up in your area- our local one was set up in response to the high teen pregnancy rate and as a result quite a lot of the stuff is mother-child participation sessions.

Oh cool Kt didn't know how it works in different areas, I have leaflet here for ours it is a 'Childrens centre' but is run by sure start, it says it is open to everyone although all the local areas are getting them so the idea is it is for local community. It lists a schedule of classes which it says are all free they include, pg yoga, baby massage, MW and HV clinics, musical minis classes. stay and play baby group, Mk springers toddler gym.
It says that for some of the craft activities a £1 fee may be charged :p
And it says that they are offering facilities mainly for 0-5 yrs but that they will hold groups that are required by the local communities needs ie youth clubs and craft groups for older kids in school hols :T
That's in Buckinghamshire, hopefully Kindof and Cafc will have a similar centre near to them too.:)

eta: Yay Kindof that looks great - it's good to have something to motivate you to get dressed sometimes when bubs arrives, saves getting stuck in a rut :)

Maureen - the support belts that phsio's give out for SPD support your pelvis not your bump anyhoo so the tubigrip is probably better anyhoo. I had to stop waering mine as it wasnt helping anymore and there a pain to sit in as there so snug.

CAFC - well thats not bad then, at least you know you'll have work coming in every now and then and 2-3 weeks is a great money boost to start, and to have something recent on your CV is a plus too.

Choccy & Kindof - dont get your hopes up too much for the sure start centres, I contacted me three most local, 2 are still in the process of being built and the third has been up and running since september but has only a few bits going on at the mo :( Tho yours maybe better if its been established longer, but I think it really depends on how keen the manager of the centre is at organising stuff.

fenlie - yeay for potty training going well :)

Nikkit - sorry your still hanging in there, lots of labour vibes still coming your way x

Of to nosey at SJs face book hehe.

Right am gonna get my but in gear and not spend ages playing comp games. I want to copy my birth plan into mat notes and arrange OHs V day pressie, may bake some more cookies too.

Can I just say surestart is fantastic and some centres have pregnancy groups and breastfeeding groups ,I can honestley say I would have gone nut's when DS was little if it wasn't for all the different groups DS and I attended ,I can't honestly recommend them enough .

I know YAY :T:T:T:T I am so happy to have found that, shame on me really cos OH works there sometimes lol :o I should have known about it, OH is the IT guy for Northumberland and he maintains 26 sites across northumberland, the childrens centre being one of them lol

Som - mine is up and running, I went there for my booking in and for my breastfeeding parentcraft but its in the more deprived part of where I lived so I didnt think I would be able to attend classes, so I am very pleased to see I do :)

Massive labour vibes to NIkkit xxx

Thanks Som. The physio's in my health board dont have the funding to give them out anymore and (until the HPG comes through) dont have the spare cash to go buying one. My spd is a lot better just now anyway simply by doing the exercises and things that they've shown me so I dont feel the need for the belt. Also, the physios state that you shouldnt wear them sitting down at all, they should be taken off if you know you're going to be sitting for a period of time. The tubigrip was alright for a bit till it got too stretchy - same as the stuff you'd get for a sore ankle/elbow/knee type thing, once you've worn it for a bit they start to lose elasticity.
At the moment it is just bump support i'm needing so i dont need to walk about holding it up! I therefore find the bump band does exactly what I need at this time.
