The system seems to be different depending on where you live.

My friend in Warrington has the same system as mentioned about by EA. Where I live in Trafford (only 20 mins away!) I went to Dr, who took my word for it, she referred me for scan and told me to make an appointment with the midwife. I then got a letter through about scan telling me to phone up to arrange it so already had date by the time of my booking in appointment with midwife.

    Hello All,

I have my 25 week midwife appointment tomorrow, what questions should I ask and what is usually done at this appointment?

  • Hello ladies..hope you all had a lovely Christmas.

Got my BFP on Dec 21st, and have done several tests since..all positive.

AF was due Xmas day, I'm regular as clockwork...so fingers crossed, know its all very early, but looks like I'm preggers.

Going to try to get in to see the dr tomorrow, not sure what the first stages are...do they do another test? I guess they book you in for a midwife app? If anyone can shed some light for me so I know what to expect, that'd be great :T

My due date (i think) is around September 3rd...scary stuff!

    Congratulations!
I could of booked to see my GP but thought it would be a waste of an appointment so just rang the maternity hospital and booked with midwife direct. I had my booking appointment at home just this Sunday gone and she rang and booked my scan while she was here. I was 10 weeks for my booking appointment and will be 11+4 when I have my first scan.

    Hi all!
    Better late than never......

Evie Mae was born at 5:27am on 26th weighing 7lb 13oz.

Brief story cos might be a while for full one!
Waters broke about 3:20pm Christmas Day. In midwifery unit from about 5pm. First stage ok - just had a fair amount of gas & air, but then 2nd stage went on forever & her head still wasn't forward enough after 2/3 hrs of pushing (cos she was upside down) so they had to transfer me to the hospital. She was showing no signs of distress but its only a matter of time after that long.
Anyway....eventually born 5:27am Boxing Day with assisted delivery (suction cap) and a 4 n a half hour 2nd stage but still just gas & air :T:T:T

She's absolutely gorgeous & perfect & seems to be doing ok. We stayed in overnight on Boxing Day as her temp was low when 1st born & had heat blanket for few hrs & came home Sunday lunch time.

Still settling in & gettin used to being a mum so havent ventured out yet! Both sets of parents came yesterday tho

Congratulations aless!!!!!!! :j:j And welcome baby Finn :D Can't believe you beat me after all that!!

Bit sore sittin down but doing ok with the stitches. That whole side of things with afterpains & b/f has been much less painful than i expected.

Aless - i know what u mean about bein weird not being pg. i also strangely wanna do the labour again cos i was so exhausted by the end i wasnt completely with it and i want to experience it again but with clearer state of mind.

    xx

:j yay!! :j awww sorry your little girl wasn't more prompt, then we could've both had Christmas babies :D I totally agree about 'doing labour again' in a way (without the pain) as obviously much of it is spent half-unaware. I wasn't so much exhausted but mine went so quickly that I'm a bit annoyed I didn''t appreciate the wonders of the birthing pool more! (nor get a chance to use gas & air :p)

hope your stitches are okay...weirdly I feel more sore today than I did yesterday!

Yay!! Congratulations :j:j:j I've been wondering how you were getting on

I had my first mw appt today and she just took my word for it - no urine or blood taken. I've got another one in 4 weeks and my scan hopefully sometime around then too. I feel so much better now I've had the appointment, like it's made it more real, I've been very stressed you know :o

Kindof - yeah you could look at the trenton if you after the general idea, sorry to hear you missed the one on kiddiecare :( Shame you think you'll only be able to cut the one day from your working week too, Ive no idea what I'll be able to do, will access the situation nearer the time.

EA - I have those lil plug in night lights in our hallway between the bedroom and loo, that way its not so dark when it comes to toilet visits thru the night. I still havent had our Hipg go into the bank! yet it says we got it in the letter we had, tried calling them put phone no was temperarily out of order!

PP - glad the dentist wasn't so bad. Sorry your still in pain tho :(

1 more - lucky you private for only £20 am so jelous. Oh and we have some names selected, and a fave that we will more than likely go with but vcant bring myself to use it till she is here. Still umming and ahhing about middle names tho!

Meltdownpoint - eek! I couldnt cope not having everything all ready. Will be 31 weeks on thur and apart from mattress, car seat and pushchair being delivered we are all sorted. Even order the rechargable batteries now for baby girls bouncer and play gym.

Stef - yeay thats fab news, and wow at your bargain mat jeans :D

Maz - woot and big congrats to you, welcome to the world Evie Mae x

Matranil - glad your still BFP, yor first doc appointment will mainly be paperwork, they dont usually do any tests at that stage, but it varies from area to are.

Jolene - the questions you ask are really down to you, but remember to ask for your MatB1 and your Health in pegnancy grant forms, it should be quite routine otherwise, same as at your 16 week appointment. Oh you may want to ask about antenatal classes too if you dont already know about them.

Well had a big sort out of my colthing today, was quite ruthless and actually gained two shelves in my wardrobe (was aiming for one so real bonus). The first shelf has the extra baby clothing that wouldnt go in the drawers, mainly big stuff like cardies and snow suit/coats. The second shelf has towels and bedding on it :D Now to find homes for my old clothes, think the majority of it will go to charity shop, but have a few bits that are designer that may be better on ebay if I can be bothered! Oh and went shopping, got some munchies to last of New Years as we arent going anywhere and a huge beef joint that I think we'll be eating for a month hehe.
