PP - not sure TBH
suspect that a 'planned' switch of hospitals this late would be impossible, but if you turned up at one in labour, surely they wouldn't turn you away! If it makes you feel better, I'm sure they're being extra cautious/careful with all their patients now that it's all over the news...sorry hon. And you can still legally have a homebirth as they can't FORCE you into a hospital without consent, but obviously with your condition you'd have to make that call whether it's a risk to baby's health.
the thing is though getting to another one when im in labour is going to be very difficult, so it doesnt leave me with a lot of options
And the whole thing about them being more careful/cautious i remember the incident about the baby being snatched from the hospital back in the late 90's it was all over the news, things have obviously got worse and not better since then  The stuff about the tampered fluid bags was in the news last week and that made me panic enough as when i was in there with the tonsilitis i was given 3 bags of fluid intravenously
Im just not sure whether baby would be more at risk being there than he would be at home ITSWIMwith DD2 they had special care on stand by (because of the same problems) but she was fine, but at the same time i cant be 100% sure that this one is going to be fine
But if he isnt and he needs further help what if anything they do makes it worse
The first time i was admitted when i went into premature labour and was in the delivery suite one of the midwives when she came in told me there had been a baby on the ward that had died she didnt go into details obviously and i just put it down to that the baby may have been stillborn im now wondering whether there was more to it  I know its a terrible thing to say but im panicking over everything now and i really dont know if my baby would be more at risk by being there than being at home
I really am so confused right now0 -
PP - In this pregnancy book i have there's a section about changing hospital. And theres loads of comments from mums who did it. Some say they changed early, some say they changed late. And another said she changed in labour by telling the paramedics to take her to the new hospital instead of the old one.
You can change as long as you discuss it with your doctor or something like that.
Just read the artical, and how many times have they been sued?!!0 -
I didn't think she was very cute last night when she drew all over herself with a permenant marker, she even got it under her nappy, and it was all over her face which luckily I managed to get off but she still has lines on her legs and tummy :rotfl:
Awwww, but that IS cute!eh, it's not going to hurt her...though I'm sure you wanted it off her face so she can appear in public again, hahahaha...

Unfortunately, the further away the hospital, the more risks you're taking. Not really something we can help you with, PP, as you've got to weigh the pros and cons here.

Thanks will have a look at that later once the girls are in bed and i can actually have a proper read through it, i did find something that said legally they cant stop you from having a home birth, as you say though its just weighing up the risks0 -
PP thats just what DD looked like but it was all black and she'd given herself a "kiss" face, it was even on her lips, gums and tongue (last week when I was looking after GIL she used 2 tubes of lipstick around her mouth and had lovely pink streaks in her hair) :rotfl:
Lol I've just realised I must sound like a really bad mummy not watching her all the time but I have to pee sometimes :rotfl:
I hope you can sort the hospital situation out PP, maybe a chat with your consultant would help?
Are you feeling better EA?

When DD did that i was living in a womens refuge and she had gone to sleep in the travel cot i thought i would get half an hour whilst she was sleeping, she woke up and climbed out of the travel cot and well honestly it was everywhere all over the drawers the floors herself i couldnt believe it  It took me 3 hours of scrubbing to get it off the floors/furniture and a weeks worth of bathing her twice a day to get it off i will never ever forget it though :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Im actually in the process of changing doctors at the moment (new doctors is closer to the new house) which means a change of midwife aswell though im keeping mondays appointment with normal midwife as i dont officially change to new doctors until wednesday. Im hoping the midwife i see on monday is not the same midwife i have seen the last two times as she has been awful  and if its one of the others hopefully i might get more sense, if not im back at the consultant on tuesday so will ask then if i still get no joy i guess i will just try the new doctors0 -

This is the hospital im booked to give birth in http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6662581/Fears-over-Basildon-Hospital-first-raised-in-2001.html
Its apparently on itv lunchtime news at the moment too and is on the front page of bbc news :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
I really reallly do not want to give birth there even more so now than before.
I was booked to have a home birth but coz of the polyhydramniosis they said i couldnt have one now, but seriously can they stop me???
What the hell do i do??? There is no way im giving birth to my baby there
Princess - i am due to give birth in uni hosp of wales - you can google news on it - it has 6 cases tamiflu resistant swine flu, terrible hygine reports, terrible maternity care reports, they had to close morturary coz someone wasnt following procedures with the corpses, consultant lead unit is currently a building site (mlu - is finished), shortages of midwives etc i cant get all the links together anyway - alot of women are going to the next nearest big hosp which in my case is newport just by flat refusing to attend the heath. Also you could ask on the parent thread coz someone who was on the preg thread when i first came on was saying if you wanted to give birth at home and called for a midwife they have to come legally - but i cant remember who said it and what evidence there was for what she said iyswim. HTH
Meant to say some mums to be are happy with the service and will be using the heath - i am nervous about rubbish reports / experiences but am going in anyway - if i am not happy with anything - like cleanliness i will complain0
