MFD - and anyone else using a CM. What am I looking for in one? I have the offer of using a local CM for one 'session' a week - a morning or afternoon and/or on a more ad hoc basis. I am considering it as nurserys can't accommodate my needs very well. It woould give me some time to get business off the ground and or/some much needed me time :D

What is a reasonable CM rate? thanks x

Rmac - are you putting vaseline on her chin to protect it?
Also ibruprophen works quicker than paracetamol and can help to reduce swelling so I usually use it over paracetamol for teething

  • I'm plastering on the Lansinoh, Sami! I think it's the only thing keeping me going. Glad to hear that Ed got the hang of it quickly- that gives me hope.

Ooh Jillie- I want a Nandos!

just a nice chocolate with the nice icing ..she says its for5 people x

okay - a couple of ideas.

a basic sponge recipe can easily be adjusted to be chocolate

4oz Self Raising flour (minus two table spoons flour)
    2 tablespoons cocoa powder
    4oz butter/marg
    4oz castor sugar
    2 eggs

butter a round 8" cake tin. line with a circle of baking paper/greaseproof paper. cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. add eggs slowly to mixture and beat well. if mixture starts to split, add a little flour. Sift flour and cocoa powder into mixture and fold in gently until all well mixed. Pour into cake tin and cook at 180deg (slightly less is a fan oven) for approx 25 mins - but check for the last 5 mins or so.

when cooled - split in half using a bread knife and fill with a little chocolate butter cream. Ice the top with chocolate butter cream and selection of goodies such as smarties, candles, etc

chocolate buttercream can be made with some icing sugar, a table spoon of cocoa powder and butter - add a teaspoon of hot water if you are having trouble mixing it all together if doing by hand. use immediately and store any leftovers (covered) in the fridge and gently heat in the microwave if wanting to use at a later date.

this recipe will also make cupcakes successfully.

Alternatively you could make choc brownies and decorate - or buy a cake and spend the time decorating it - don't be afraid to cut the cake up to make a different shape - such as the first letter of her name or her age. Just using butter icing to stick it together and then cover in buttericing and no-one will see the joins ;)
