Morning all.. Thanks for all the sleep ideas. I kind of like the idea of the pick up put down method, but a bit unsure, as I know she starts screaming the second I put her down. No idea what would happen if I tried 8 + times though. Other than joining aM in the physio queue
I like the idea of reading a story too - if nothing else will keep me distracted while I try and ignore the cryingWe have a whinnie the pooh anthology and a paddington bear one too, so that should do the first week
Anyway, off to the allotment now. Talk to you all later.Isabella Molly born 14th January 2009

Hi all - new mum here Tegan is now 5 days old and I am really struggling with breast feeding. Especially at night when I am tired.
I'm not sure if it is my technique or the fact I have large breasts (34J)? can anyone give me some tips. I just can't get her to latch on properly she either just takes in the nipple or has her hands in the way or seems to latch on then loosens her hold until there is only the nipple in her mouth. I feel so bad keeping taking her off. she hates me moving her hands and when I put my hand behind her neck.
I am feeling like I am failing her and end up crying everytime I feed her. I end up just letting her feed on my nipple to make sure that she gets something. Which I know is not good. The MW seems happy with my breastfeeding when they watch but I will tell them when they call tomorrow that I am really struggling. I know there are helplines and support groups but I just can'tdo anything without crying and feel stupid.
Has anyone else felt like this? Does it get easier? Any help would be appreciated. ThanksTegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -
Hi Karen! Loads of experts here to help with that stuff and I am not one, hopefully someone will be along soon with some good advice.
Have you tried expressing, to give yourself a bit of a break and be sure she's getting something down her?
With big boobs especially I think they often have trouble when young and tiny and get better as they get older; my OH struggled til about 4 weeks when he really caught on. Seeing a BF counsellor definitely helped and reassured too.
Are you ok-ish with feeding lying down? It makes night feeds less frustrating and exhausting, and when you're being sleep-deprived it makes everything seem worse and harder. If it's possible, make OH give you breaks and naps - another reason why EBM can be good.
ETA Congrats on the baby thoughand Tegan is a lovely name. Hope everything else is ok, and someone will probably ask you loads of nosy questions soon
