  • MOTM- I think you can't go wrong with a nice pashmina type scarf- John Lewis have some lovely ones. Lush is really nice for smellies, and I'm always very happy with anything from Hotel Chocolat.

I saw some Pashmina scarves today actually that Lucy was looking at, but they were £1.99 or 3 for £5 so i'm guessing they were cheap rubbish? How much would you say a good Pashmina would cost? I'll look at John Lewis.

Is Lush only available in Lush shops? We have one in our High Street (if that is where Lush is from)

We also have a Hotel Chocolat, but i've never been in. Is it as posh as it looks? :rotfl:

Smellies are iffy if you don't know what she likes. Lush has been suggested but I'd would hate anything from there! Maybe one of the girls could start a conversation about perfume to find out her favourites ;)

Nice chocolate is a good suggestion. Hotel Chocolat is fab, and if you go in and explain what you are looking for, they will help you pick a gift.

Or jewellry - a nice pendant or some pretty earrings if she has pierced ears.

Well, we have some ideas, the girls have been fishing as they want to know what she likes too ;)

They ask you too pick gifts? It's not like buying a nice box of chocs then? :rotfl:

I thought jewellery. She seems to like small petite silver as opposed to large coloured jewellery. Should I go to a jewellery shop or normal high street chain? I usually get my girls things from the likes of New Look, River Island etc - is this too young for a 28 year old?

MOTM I'm glad it went well. Did she say she likes anything? How about a night in in a box? M&S £10 voucher for dinner, box of chocolates, popcorn, snuggly blanket and a couple of DVDs?

Is a night in a box all those things? She likes girly accessories, says her hair straighteners need replacing, romantic dvds's and white chocolates. Various fragrances have been mentioned, most i've never heard of :p

    Hi MOTM,

I guess whatever you buy her will be lovely. The thought that crosses my mind though is that maybe people read quite a lot into their gifts from a new partner, so I'd just say make sure your gifts don't kind of accidentally promise something that's a bit more 'long-term commitmentish' than you feel able to be right now. Does that make sense?

I'm quite cautious naturally so after seeing someone for 3 weeks I'd probably get quite a few fun things on behalf of me and the girls, rather than something more serious from just me...

I think she'd feel just as spoilt, but then it wouldn't accidentally accelerate the relationship in her mind...

HTH, just my thoughts, others may disagree.

You make perfect sense. I'll avoid booking the wedding and the honeymoon until January :D

Seriously, my girls have already done their work :o I thought maybe some fun gifts from me and the girls can have their names attached to the other things, so a compromise of what you suggest?

I think the relationship has already accelerated judging by her comments and the girls meddling :o

With myself and buttonmoons about, you'll get to see plenty of full moons :T

I agree - also, be prepared to talk about volume/cost etc. She might feel overwhelmed at the prospect of buying for 8 people!

And a little story. A friend of mine had been seeing a guy for around a month and Christmas rolled by. She gave him some chocolates. He gave her a diamond watch.

Embarrassment ended that relationship in its tracks - talk to her about how Christmas is and suggest that if she wants to bring gifts for the girls she doesn't have to, but a joint gift would be nice, something they could maybe all share.

Well, we did talk about Christmas and I said i'd add her name to my gifts for the girls, which she said was fine, but she said she wanted to buy something for them as well. We agreed I would go with her to help her, so she had some ideas and didn't spend too much. She's not short of money. She doesn't spend money very much and she's already told me how much money she has in the bank which make me choke :o She's shy in many ways, but she's coming out of her shell, and telling me things I wouldn't want to tell anyone after knowing them two days. She's taking us very seriously and she's a bit scared she's going to lose it :o

Emlou - i'm glad its not just me being too old for this baby stuff!

I woke this morning at 6 to give V her bottle. And thought at the time I should get up, but an extra half hour in bed was too tempting.

I eventually woke up at 10 to 8 - when DS gets collected for school at 8!

I suppose rather than sitting here moaning - I should go to bed!

Sami, I'll need to look for some completely legal downloads :p;)

Nursery staff are loving it (they fancy his SALT, too camp for my tastes) they have been learning how to sign some songs and the 'wriggly nativity' is now 'wriggly nativity with signs'! :D He (SALT) has mentioned courses for me to go on but I haven't seen him and it won't till after Christmas now. I discovered the other day that when he comes up to me and says 'ooohhhh me gnnngggg' and rubbing his tummy, he is actually doing the sign for hungry not saying he feels ill.... was getting worried for a time!

MOTM, what colour was the pashima, cos we are super shoppers here ;) And Lush shop is best place to get Lush but you may pass ou at the prices (I know I did! Was too tight to buy anything).

Uhm...hi hugs hello! To all :D

Ah your a clever man :D I think it is (though the song hasn't been released cos its not on itunes or even youtube). Thank you! Now.. where is that techno bit from? :D

Nice soft silky scarf, jewellry - stick to party/fashion types rather than pretty little things are that more romantic, you aint proposing yet, smelly stuff - I love soap and glory from boots it's lush and non-hinting that you want to scrub her back and generally have naughty bath time, flowers - a nice christmassy assortment (though very over priced at Christmas), DVD night in a box is a good one but not a slushy romantic film (we gave bro and sis in law this last year and they loved it), can't think of anything else sorry!

See, I agree with presents having a 'hidden meaning' :D

Sorry, can't help with where any of it is from, especially as you mentioned 2 fast and furious as i'm not a gamer :o Or is that a movie? :o

Can you get silver fashion types of jewellery?

Hah! Naughty bath time, she already wants to scrub my back next time. I'll look in boots for that range ( I am writing all this down folks!) Body Shop? Is that okay? Got some for my girls, which is obviously not romantic. Or should I be being romantic now?

What flowers are Christmassy? I haven't bought flowers for years :o

She wants romantic films, she's just slushy and naughty :o Still interested in this 'night in a box' theory? Never heard of it :o

It's called a blue moon - 2 full moons in one calendar month :D How do I know all this random information.....

I've had the diamond watch story happen to me :D although it wasn't a diamond watch, but an all expenses paid trip (think first class flights, super-expensive hotel and a helicopter!) to the south of France on our second date.......all a bit overwhelming. Oh and he's not the man I am married to ;)

A great option for the girls is a game - everyone can play and so the focus is taken away from a 'new' person in the mix. I love monopoly, cluedo, articulate, taboo and trivial pursuits :D

sending MM more hugs form me.

    You into Moons too? ;):D

This diamond watch scenario has come up again :rotfl:

Don't worry, i've already told her she's not allowed to spend much on me, but I am on her, merely because I really don't want or need anything. I love to spoil my girls, but my best Xmas is just them all with me and healthy. She didn't like it at first, so I had to let her buy me something. I told her she will be spoilt though as the girls want to as much as I do, and she gave in.....well, accepted her fate :p

Yeah i'm soppy  I just have never liked presents much. Growing up without much made me appreciate the small things.

MOTM - glad ur date went well....stayovers already!!!? i think you culd be following suitwith the ladies and their fast moving relationships on here!!! :)

now its a cuppa tea and a choccie biccie!!!!! :T

Stayovers, makeovers, sleepovers and sloppy seconds. Well, maybe.

I'm going to do my best and not be the quickest relationship. I am enjoying it though. I had given up on relationships and i'm surprised my girls are the way they are. I thought they'd be totally against it. I guess it helped that they met her and liked her before.

Mines a Yorkshire Tea and a Bourbon ;)
