  • MOTM- I think you can't go wrong with a nice pashmina type scarf- John Lewis have some lovely ones. Lush is really nice for smellies, and I'm always very happy with anything from Hotel Chocolat.

Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Name Dropper Photogenic

She's coming to us for Christmas and we want her to feel really welcome and she deserves spoiling as no-one else has ever spolit her. Budget not an issue, but obviously reasonable, not return tickets to Australia or something :rotfl: Any idea, big or small would be appreciated from you ladies (and Bruno with his experience of being with a lady)

Smellies are iffy if you don't know what she likes. Lush has been suggested but I'd would hate anything from there! Maybe one of the girls could start a conversation about perfume to find out her favourites ;)

Nice chocolate is a good suggestion. Hotel Chocolat is fab, and if you go in and explain what you are looking for, they will help you pick a gift.

Or jewellry - a nice pendant or some pretty earrings if she has pierced ears.
Here I go again on my own....

MOTM I'm glad it went well. Did she say she likes anything? How about a night in in a box? M&S £10 voucher for dinner, box of chocolates, popcorn, snuggly blanket and a couple of DVDs?

    Hi MOTM,

I guess whatever you buy her will be lovely. The thought that crosses my mind though is that maybe people read quite a lot into their gifts from a new partner, so I'd just say make sure your gifts don't kind of accidentally promise something that's a bit more 'long-term commitmentish' than you feel able to be right now. Does that make sense?

I'm quite cautious naturally so after seeing someone for 3 weeks I'd probably get quite a few fun things on behalf of me and the girls, rather than something more serious from just me...

I think she'd feel just as spoilt, but then it wouldn't accidentally accelerate the relationship in her mind...

HTH, just my thoughts, others may disagree.

Tia, I'm confused by Laura. It sounds like she is saying a good thing to me, that it's not weird if he fancies her. ie, that she thinks it's ok with her?

OK I know she said it loudly and ran away, but I'm sure I was guilty of getting just as overwhelmed. Til I was about 16yrs older than she is :rotfl:

r.mac thanks for the cammomile tea :) Let's sip it together and recover from emotional encounters with our GPs!

, Fergus went through the hickie stage. DH ended up with a large unfortunate one on his neck when fergie was very small. Male colleagues were very surprised and admiring of how quickly we appeared to have refound our erm.... mojo :)

Tara, your boy is very handsome, you must feel so proud of him :)

Jillie, yeah, I know what you mean. I often think the ways of explaining death to children can be mystifying, patronising, confusing.... I know you'll do it really well when she comes to you. And also when Kian needs to understand too.

FWIW Fergus won't see his auntie, due to unfortunate family circs. Because I feel this will be odd for him, I've adopted that thing that some mums do where you call mummy's female friends 'Auntie Helen'. So that he feels like he has lots of lovely aunties, rather than just one he doesn't see. Then by the time he's old enough to ask who he's related to, he'll hopefully be more able to cope with the idea of why she's not around...

Not suggesting that's a way forward with you guys though, just thought I'd say :)
