I had to do an audit for work this morning. Just having lunch then I'm taking Charlotte and Bob for a walk, then fitting a new ball valve float to the toilet to hopefully stop it sounding like a foghorn when it's flushed. Busy busyHere I go again on my own....0 -
Hi all, hope everyone is doing well. Unfortunately I only seem to come on here when I have a problem (cause i know all you lovely people have such a wealth of knowledge)
well my health visitor advised trying to express 4 oz of breast milk. At the mo I have borrowed a manual pump off a friend but it took me several hours to express 2 oz but that was mostly done by hand and not by pump. so I was wondering is there any tips to using a manual pump? Or is it just perseverence? It seemed that it just sucked on my breast with nothing coming out? Or would it be worth me getting an electric one - not that I am expecting to express much at the mo (but it depends on how tegan is after she feeds on the 4oz) if so - can anyone recommend one that is reasonably priced?
thanks for any info.Tegan Lily arrived 4 November 2009 (3 days late)
Floyd Peter arrived 9th July 2011 (1 day early)0 -

Karen, all I can add is that I'd be lucky to get 4oz expressed even with my little electric pump - you could try expressing from one side while Tegan feeds from the other, that's supposed to help
Pumps seem to depend a lot on personal preference/boob shape etc. I love the little Medela Mini but someone else (I want to say Tia but maybe not) hated hers.

Hi everyone
Sami - whens the posh do? have you time to try Ed with a bottle a few times before the date. Oh and get a move on with your passport photos;)
Carla - Glad you had a good night out:)
I am so :mad:at my dh......won't even go into it at the moment but he is a lazy/selfish pig!
Need to go make a couple of bottles and then get back to the boys room, I am in the middle of dismantling the wardrobes. My back and hands hurt now but need to get it done:(Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -
Karen, your HV is putting a LOT of pressure on you to express 4oz. Most women even when BF without any problems at all can only get 1-2oz! Try massaging the breast first and express while feeding and in the morning. It may take you a few sessions to get 4oz.
Best small electric one I used (I went through a few) was the medela mini electric . Hand pump I only used the medela harmony (which can be picked up on ebay used for a few quid if your ok with that)
SS, I loved my medela mini, loved teh double mini version even more but HATED the swing0 -
Tia beat me to it with the advice - massage your boobs first before trying to express, it seems to stimulate the let-down reflex so that you start leaking sooner. But 4 oz is indeed alot, I'm on domperidon & fenugreek to stimulate my production and I still only manage 3 oz a session.
I used to find a handpump as productive as electric - I only went electric because I'm expressing all day & bottle-feeding. I loved my Mini, the Swing was okay but took longer, and now I'm on hospital grade kit.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

 I've been trying to sell the small room size offcuts from our carpets for a while. Now I'm fed up of the sight of them (and the money isn't such an issue now) so put them on FreeCycle... five emails in two minutes! Knew they would go straight away. OH has gone out.. wonder if he'll notice they've gone when he gets back!0
