Hi guys,
Now that animal testers L'oreal have bought out the Body Shop, their eco-friendly and animal-testing free pledges have pretty much gone out of the window in our house. We've always bought lots of their products, especially the ginger anti-dandruff shampoo, but since the buyout we've been looking for a better source of ethically right stuff, with not much luck.
Shame the Body Shop had to get put in the same category as Nestle! (Nestlé has a 26.4% stake in L'oreal). Soon we won't be able to ethically buy anything...!
Anyone have any good suggestions? Our pre-takeover bottles are running out!
Thanks for any suggestions....

have never tried them, but heard that Weleda and Beauty without Cruelty should be OK.
I suppose that when looking to buy a product you could check it out with something like Ethical Consumer - am quite new to this, but sure others will know more than me.
I did ask in the Body shop last week, and was told that their products will remain untested on animals, I remain unconvinced!Carolbee0 -

Grab a copy of Animal Free Shoper. Not only does it list what brands don't test on animals but also has lists of supermarkets own brands that are suitable.
My copy is at home but I can post some later if you'd like.Sigless0 -

Good advice, probably best to get it direct rather than from amazon though so you're sure to get the latest one.

Co-op own brands are not tested on animals, and most have no animal ingredients either.
The animal free shopper is great, I would highly recommend it, it's small enough to fit in your bag too.Sometimes I feel like a pelican. Whichever way I turn, I've still got an enormous bill in front of me.0 -
The Body Shop weren't that cruelty free as their policy was not to use products or ingredients tested on animals within the last 5 years (in a rolling 5 year period) so anything over the 5 year mark could be used. I did buy Body Shop stuff sometimes though - their products are nice - but I always felt awful for doing so. Now that she's totally sold up to such a non-cruelty free company I wont be buying their products anymore.
I use both Weleda and Beauty without Cruelty and their products are excellent. BWC make my favourite lippy!! I may be getting confused (which isn't difficult!) but I think BWC can only be bought on the 'net. Have you tried BarryM cosmetics too???

Not sure about the testing but we use Weleda, Green People and Faith in Nature. All have good websites and list ingredients.MFW 1/5/08 £45,789 Cleared mortgage 1/02/13

This might help http://www.buav.org/gocrueltyfree/useucompanies.html
BUAV have been producing this booklet for 15+ years and it's excellent. The website now updates with BUAV recently approved companies.
Also, have a look at Honesty Cosmetics http://www.honestycosmetics.co.uk/hair%20care%20shampoo%20conditioner.shtml
Their products are lovely and smell really nice too! (I've tried loads of different products over the years).
Hope this helps
