    Hi Jasper and welcome! :hello:

All of the suggestions above are good ones. Do the SOA, start a diary, start a spending diary (write down everything you spend, EVERYTHING - this will help you to see where your problem spending areas are), talk to the OH and do NOT get a consolidation loan. It's true that they can be appropriate in rare cases, however, your OH's reluctance to reign in his spending means that this is not the option for you!

Have you and the OH looked at the finances together, in full, not just listing the debts? Have you told him about this site? Does he even understand the gravity of the situation you're in right now? If not, then you need to sit down together and spend some time discussing this and working out budgets. Encourage him to be involved and it should help him to come round and start changing his habits.

Also check out the snowball calculator: http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx not sure if someone mentioned that already, but it's a great way of calculating which debt to pay first and who gets what proportion of your money AND it calculates a DFD for you. Also, with the help of PADing, you will see that DFD come closer and closer which is a great motivational tool!

OK, that's pretty much everything I can think of right now, but if you start a diary and post your SOA on there then you will get loads more suggestions on where you can cut back. :D

  • hi green! just had a thought- not sure exactly where are you in the NE, but do you have a dogs home type place nearby that offers neutering services? i pick up my puppy leah next week (at 8 weeks - so i, too, fear for our shoes!) and this is where i am going to take her for microchipping and neutering when the time comes:

    http://www.dogshome.net/neutering-service.html

i've been there before with Beavers, it's a lovely friendly place with proper vets, but is loads cheaper than going to a private vet. xx

Thanks for that tomtom but the link doesn't work for me?
I'm definitely interested but Millie has an umbilical hernia that the vets are going to do at the same time as her spay, do you think they would do it as well??
    thanks

  • St. Peter stood at the Pearly Gates, waiting for the incoming.
He saw Jesus walking by and caught his attention.
"Jesus, could you mind the gate while I go do an errand?"
    "Sure," replied Jesus.
So Jesus waited at the gates while St. Peter went off on his errand.

The first person to approach the gates was a wrinkled old man. Jesus summoned him to the examination table and sat across from him.
Jesus peered at the old man and asked, "What was it you did for a living?"
The old man replied, "I was a carpenter."
Jesus remembered his own earthly existence and leaned forward. "Did you have any family?" he asked.
"Yes, I had a son, but I lost him."
Jesus leaned forward some more. "You lost your son? Can you tell me about him?"
"Well, he had holes in his hands and feet."
Jesus leaned forward even more and whispered, "Father?"
The old man leaned forward and whispered, "Pinocchio?"

  • Good morning all  and welcome to any newbies :D

Jasper I can only echo the advice that Paul and Euro have given you - especially the bit from Paul about locking up your hubby :D:D I wouldn't consolidate either if he's still spending I'm afraid, he needs to have his own light bulb moment I think. There is light at the end of the very long tunnel good luck to you.

Pad today is £3 ISA, £5 Egg and £10 cap1 cc

Thanks Sarah for all your hard work totting up :T:T and that was a pretty good total for yesterday :T
