Will Gordon Brown send UK economy over the edge?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/politics/article6898195.ece

Final push by Gordon about to be seen. If your going to bankrupt our country and ruin generations of lives, then you may aswell do it in style. You'd have thought the Queen would of sent in the men in white coats long ago. Maybe its part of the big plan to take us into the EU and get everyone else to underwrite the debt but its currently looking like a back end 2010 default and mad max after the next round of massive stimilus that clearly is the only thing holding up our debt mountain economy...

  • All nice & good at having a go at this old scapegoat Gordon Clown (not that he is not deserve it).
However how come none is mentioning Alec Blare?
This man had lead the country during the boom years & he had the final say on all decisions either was economy benefits or wars.
And is he going to be EU president?
Who on earth will vote for him?
Si Deus pro nobis quis contra nos?

I suppose the one good thing out of it are that interest rates are likely to remain low for the medium term

Going to? It's a done job IMHO!

I'm constantly reminded of the comment made back in February 2008 by Albert Edwards, global strategist for Soc. Gen., who, at that time, said that the U.K. was heading towards Banana Republic status with an “obscenely large” deficit and a “grotesquely huge household borrowing imbalance”. That was then!!

Interestingly, at that time the UK was assisting Liberia in poverty reduction by helping it clear the arrears on debt it owes. Our dear Chancellor, Alistair Darling, went on to boast about how great this was for Liberia, which he described as a "HIPC", a Heavily Indebted Poor Country. The 3 million inhabitants of Liberia had a government debt of $4.5 billion dollars, some £2.3 billion or £767 per head.

Scorched-earth from the socialist/Fabians of which Clown is a card-carrying member.

Now wait for the crocodile tears from the leftists as they weep and wail about 'the poor', 'the seekers', 'the excluded' when the Tories take the necessary steps to recover something from the wreckage of Clown's borrow'n'bungle decade.

At least the Civil Service will do everything they can to thwart Clown in the last months of his bedraggled, corrupt administration. The whole of Westminster is now planning for the incoming Tory govt and, like the rest of England, just laughing at the rantings of Clown in the No.10 bunker.

No more than we should expect from a Tory rag, but what isn't considered in the article, or the comments, is whether this strategy of 'we're doing it because it's essential' (and you're worth it!) will tempt self-interested voters. It might, because from an individual's POV, all this economy stuff is not really their responsibility. It isn't like the mortgage and the gas bill.

Fortunately, The Sun has pledged allegiance elsewhere...

No - but the Tories will!

The only people who will send the UK over the edge, as you put it, are the people behind the finance markets.

They are not driven by ideology. They just want reassurance that we will pay back our future debts.

Why is that so hard to understand?

What's your point? Is it that under the conservatives the recession will be made worse and then we won't be able to pay our debts back?
Why is that so hard to understand?

It might be easier to understand if you made your point more clearly?

Well that's your humble opinion. At least we will have a clear choice and the voters can and will decide.
