I had a visit from the tv licence people about 4 years ago, I dint have one. I said it was because I couldnt afford one so they gave me a card to pay at pappoint every week. I stopped after a couple of weeks and never heard from them since!
I cant see how they completly forgot to ask you to keep up with payments! I pay on a card weekly and recently got myself in a pickle of getting behind on paying it due to unemployment and they sent me texts, phonecalls and letters every week and refered me to a Debt recovery agency to get the £66 i owed. My own fault but I have learned my lesson!
But anyway to the OP you can pay weekly with a card at a few local shops like Nisa etc, I do. Just ask them about the weekly payment option.0 -

Yes you make me sick too, my job is to chase people like you who never buy a licence and think that they can get away with it. I hope your tv breaks down very soon2010 - Goals

You can also set up a weekly payment plan or you can save special stamps to put towards your next licence.
Hey,
Just to go back to the original topic as this is a question I wanted answering having recently moved into my first home and bought a TV license at home.
I understand what has been said above which answers the question better than the TV license customer service could to me, but why is it like this? The TV license adverts a few months ago said it costs £12 a month - they do not mention having to pay 6 months in advance. It doesn't even say on the web site, or at any point when you are buying the TV license (NOTE: they changed their web site 27th of October 2009 so this may have changed - purchased my license on the 24th).
The TV license customer service representative told me that when I cancel my TV license I will get a refund for the 6 months I have not used. More than likely though, I will have a TV and therefore a license for another 50years. £71.22 refund will be worth pennies when I'm 70+ and qualify for the free license.
You don't pay for Sky, BT phone line, internet connection, mobile phone contract or any other service like this - certainly without being told before signing on the dotted line - why is the TV license any different!?0
