    Morning everyone.
    Happy Halloween!!!!!

Well my plan of having friends and their kids round yesterday to make some scary paper pumpkin masks went pear shaped and every single one cancelled due to one of their kids being poorly  I was rather disappointed if I am honest. I was looking forward to the kids coming round and having some fun. Still mindee and DS had a good time making them (as did I ;)) so all not lost. Got to take DS to a fancy dress party tonight.......need to convince him that he wants to wear his Iron Man costume, he's not keen at the moment :rotfl:
H at work for a few hours so me and the kids might go take a walk. Its grey and damp here but still loving the change of colours on the trees :D

Should be chips with something for tea tonight so nice and easy. Just got the usual washing and cleaning to do (kids permitting) so not terribly exciting. I might get some sweets in for any little kids that call. I refuse to give either sweets or money to teenagers - to me trick or treating should be for the very young not for gangs of lads that should know better

Jayne and George - I cannot imagine what you are having to deal with but I am so glad you have the support you need around you hugs

Diva - where do you get all your smilies from? They are fab :T

Molly - sorry to hear about your "turn" - hope you're feeling bit better soon.

Hester - enjoy Samhain, what do you put in your harvest punch?

I just wanted to add that I am getting everso slightly excited at the gearing up for Christmas, Bonfire night and the whole change in seasons. I am loving the cooler mornings (OK not especially the damp and drizzly but you catch my drift). Am looking forward to more craft activities for the season for the kids, lots of warming comfort foods like soup etc, wrapping up warm and snug in the cold and if we're really lucky then some snow

Sorry I sound a loon but just got that excited feeling when thinking of the next few weeks ahead :o

    Morning everyone

Cranky - a hard task for you yesterday, with DH working away it must feel a bit unreal to you and G. Hope G & Pixel are enjoying each other. :grouphug:

Had a couple of days with not a lot of OS to report, meal out Thursday where we treat ourselves to fillet steak:o, then went to the live music in the irish bar next door but one to the restaurant, DH drove too;).

Yesterday we had a run round some DIY places as we would like to change the kitchen doors on the units out here, Option 1, is to just change the doors, Option 2 is to change the doors and alter the corner to put a real corner unit in you can actually get into:rolleyes:, Option 3 is to turn the F/F around and then add another corner wall unit and extend the base into the hole left by the F/F IYKWIM. Option 4 is to change the doors on the base units and replace wall units with 900 high ones, etc., etc., you know how it goes, the bare minimum we have agreed is Option 1, but DH is now pushing for Option 3:T, my actual favourite is Option 4, but we may decide on that before we tackle this project when we return in January. Far too warm atm to consider, and leave for home on Wednesday

Market this morning for any last minute things to bring home. I have some ironing I must attack before we leave;).

My FB photos :o decided that I have to get back on the diet route when I get home, hopefully can make an impact before Xmas, and then continue after.

Scrabble game where I am leading atm, awaiting someone's turn

Pen-Pin hope you had a good Hols. ((hugs)) to you and any one else who's like one.

 everyone - Take care - DG

Very excited. I have made a picnic lunch of quiche, rolls and hm soup to take with us so shouldn't work out too expensive (so that is about the extent of my

  • Morning all, I just knew I shouldn't have said that I hadn't had a cold for ages.Last night throat felt a bit dry and this morning my head is stuffed and I'm feeling a bit grotty. So its paracetamol every four hours and lots of hot lemon and honey.
I went and got my shopping yesterday for a change.I normally shop on a Wednesday as its quieter.Never again on a Friday it was awful ,shop full of folk shoving and pushing. I like to take my time and wander, couldn't do that yesterday.I went to Sainsbobs for a change and got some nice steak for dinner tonight though and a lovely piece of salmon. Then on the way home I popped into Morrisons and bought some fruit and veg.Huge cabbage and some carrots 30p each that I'll take to my DD's tomorrow, her tribe love vegetables. I have bought enough shopping so I don't need to go to the shops for at least a week if not more. Made some pea and lentil soup in my slow cooker yesterday it was on whilst I was out, and last night bottled it up in my plasic soup bottles and froze it for next week.Three litres that cost me buttons to make as I had a big jar of dried peas in the cupboard.
Today I am going to do my ironing that has been piling up this week and watch some catch-up t.v.It's looking a bit grey here at the moment and I think rain is on the way.Tomorrow I will do some baking at eldest DD will be down for coffee in the morning and then I will be off to youngest DDs in the afternoon.
    Hope everyone has a good week-end .
    Cheers from a snuffly JackieO

    Morning everyone:wave:

Well I don't know about witches, ghosts and monsters we have our very own scary creatures chez Thrift -yes, dd has nits:eek::eek::rolleyes: Discovered on Thursday and treated with strong and dangerous chemicals which have failed to kill them. So I'm combing and combing with a Nitty Gritty comb which is very effective but who knows how long it'll be before they've all gone. I combed for ages yesterday evening and nothing came out, today 2 tiny ones were found. Only the other day I was saying 'we haven't had nits for a couple of years'

Anyway, this is making my head itch, and yours too probably so onto nicer things.

    Jobs today

Make halloween cakes -chocolate fairy cakes with orange icing decorated with halloween sweeties.

    Carve pumpkin.

Make pumpkin and coconut soup for lunch.

Hang up witch decoration that I made when ds1 was a baby and have failed to remember every single halloween since. It's this decoration only mine's in black. It is from a fabulous book called All the Year Round from which I also made our lovely advent calendar. I wish I'd made more things from it now, but the kids are getting a bit too old to appreciate things like that.

Make sausage and pumpkin stew for supper. I'm using sausagemeat made into balls and flavoured with hot smoked paprika and fennel.

    Laundry (and ironing if time).

I'm not giving to trick or treaters I'm afraid as we only seem to get groups of strange teenage boys who want money. We had some last night -if they can't even get the date right.....

OH and I will be celebrating by watching Spooks! We've been catching up on this series courtesy of Lovefilm. I don't know why we stopped watching it as it is excellent and a new series starting next week ;-). We might watch Sleepy Hollow too -a good Halloween film.
  • Hi Ceridwen
I promise I only dress like this on Halloween, though some of the costume is recycled from previous events & they are not connected to Halloween. I'll post an explanation on my blog this afternoon!

    Recipe for harvest punch
Depending on the company expected I use red wine, or vodka or Ribena the real one is the only one that works for this.
If using red wine I heat the 2 or 3 bottles of wine in my Jam Pan & add sliced 3 oranges, 2 lemon, 3 apples, cinnamon, cardomom, cloves, nutmeg & honey.
If using Vodka I add the fruit, spices & honey to water, bring to the boil, allow to cool then add 2 bottles of vodka.
If using Ribeana add slices of fruit to warmed diluted Ribeana, I usually add just a little nutmeg & leave out the other spices if this is for childen.

Hi Molly, enjoy watching your telly. My cat falls off the window sill in her sleep - it's hysterical.

Diva - wow, what a lucky kitty! Ours get the skin and the giblets and count themselves blessed!

Well we are off shortly to order our windows, so bang on cue the drying rack has collapsed and the central heating controller has packed up. So that's 2 more things to buy/sort out. We do have CH and hot water, but only if we switch it on and off manually and there is no thermostat on it, so it's either off or scorching!

DD (12) is going out ToT tonight for the first time. I don't hold with it either but she reckons she's the only one of her friends who has never been. So we have 3 of her friends round later, and 1 possibly 2 sleeping over.

    See you later.

My dd's nut allergy has provided me with the perfect excuse for not letting them go trick or treating ;)

Must have a look at Hester's blog, I used to have an occasional peep, but not been there for a long time... MSE site tends to be a winter thing with me, whiling away the hours each day spent with my SAD lamp.

Sorry, Good Morning ALL. Washing is flapping on the line. It's sad how much pleasure I get from this! I didn't have a line for over 2 years, maybe that's why.:T

I've been busy blowing the food budget again, but only with 'useful' and reduced price stuff that will save some £ in the long run. DOn't normally shop in Mr T these days, but was there with DH yesterday waiting while he had his eyetest. Got reduced price parsnips, carrots, sprouts, cauliflower and mushrooms. Had already got some stuff at ALdi, but extra carrots never come amiss, will do for carrot and coriander soup when kids morris dancer friends come for their annual lunch just before christmas. THey get soup, fresh bread and cake.

Also got bread flour. last lot from Lidl didn't seem so good and now there is Aldi in the village I don't get over to Lidl very often. I did get there this week, think they have 'upped their game' in the fruit and veg dept.

Does anyone know if Morrisons have their turkey drumsticks in yet? they seem to be seasonal. ALso looking out for ALdi goose.

Friends over for dinner tonight, though one lot has cancelled, seems like such a lot of effort for just 4 of us! Am doing curry night - lamb with spinach and chicken tikka from my new low fat curry book, samosas and papadoms to start with, all home made. Maybe a carrot and cardamom cake with a spot of icecream for afterwards. A veg dish of some description as well.

I should be getting on with stuff, but work colleague suggested a coffee at Borders, so I did a load of stuff for the meal last night. Must try not to buy too much!

hope the weather stays nice for everyone, it's beautiful here right now.

    Good morning,

Thanks for your comments, but I'm not brave. I have a 4 year old to look after, so there is no other way but to carry on.

The child and the cat are driving me loopy this morning, which is just as it should be :rotfl: It makes George laugh when I tell them both off together!

Not much in the way of OS today. The house is clean and tidy, I have cleaned the front of the cooker this morning for want of anything else to do. I'm not ready to tackle the inside yet though.

We're going round to my friend's house for a halloween party later. George has a costume. I shall just go as myself which should be enough to scare anybody right now.... I had another early start with George this morning (5:10am) so I'm hoping that if he stays up late for the party, he may sleep a bit later in the morning.

Donny-gal you're right. I do know he's not coming back, but due to only speaking to him on the phone and emailing him for the 4 months before he died, there is definitely a surreal feeling to my life just now. Hopefully, if I ever get the death certificates from the Falklands (now re-issued, originals presumed lost), I will be able to start all the paperwork off, and life will feel more "real" again.

    Take care all of you.
