OS Daily Thread - Happy Halloween

:eek::eek:Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 31st October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Hi,
Hope I have started today's thread ok - correct me if Im wrong.
Sorry that I have not posted for a few days but life has been busy with two appointments and a day case yesterday. I took a bad turn afterwards so my kids dad is staying to help me out this weekend. Hence im tapping away quietly. Im up early because I had stuff on my mind but im goona catch up on my recorded TV programmes.
My DS1 has just come in:eek: but was not drunk which I was pleased about. Hope he comes out of this drunk phase soon cos he is lovely when he's sober. We just had a catch-up at 2.30am.
OS - well washing again and sortin....my dog has just fallen off the windowsill...daft animal...She's ok sound asleep!!!!Im off to my last group and ended up buying some nice cakes as just not up to making any. We hoping to meet up as some of us are very isolated now - me included. Im starting an 8 week card making course on Monday -I shall be asking for tips!! Ive got a Mr T shop coming as they sent me a voucher for on-line. Was totally not impressed with their last effort as it was in September and they totally messed up order. My cleaner/ homehelp has texted me to say she can come two days next week:T A big relief and means that I dont need to organise kids and their dad so much!!!!
I love Halloween and have lots of goodies to give out. My kids are off to various parties and the youngest is going Trick/treat. We have never had any problems around here and I love seeing them all dressed up especially the littl'uns. My DS3 is picking up my OS ways as I asked him if he need a new costume/ mask and he said he was reusing last years:A
Jayne and George - just wanted to say that Im thinking of you and admire you for your brave spirit
Have a lovely day,
Mollyx :eek::eek::eek:

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Hi Molly! Nice to see you posting, and yes you started it correctly except for the date in the 'sticky'.. you just need to change that to todays date hon! Well done you for taking the plunge!
I had started the thread too a min or so after you so I have deleted mine and added it to yours so we don't confuse people!

Morning all and Happy All Hallows Eve!!
Cranky - Reading your posts still bring a lump to my throat. I am so so sorry your lovely husband isn't coming home and wish I had words to make it better somehow. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers hon
Hester - Your neighbour sounds very inconsiderate! Hope you manage to sleep in sometime soon hon
Janie - so sorry you are in pain hon. And I am sure you have already done so, but have you rung and spoken to the JSA people? I am sure it will all be backdated but they ought to know that you haven't had any yet.
Bitsy - Yes it was nice to see my Dad - we had dinner on Tuesday and he came round for a coffee yesterday afternoon. Is heading back home on Sunday. He paid for a takeaway and we had enough leftovers to have another meal so that was quite moneysaving!
Sarah - I do hope you can find out what is triggering the drinking as it must be hell for your grandad. He must be very grateful for your support.
2cats1kid - We had the £20 turkey last sunday for dinner and knocked it down for three more meals plus LOADS for the cat as my OH won't eat the brown meat and as he does the cooking, the cat gets it all. We freeze it in 4oz packets.
Taplady - We don't need to pay for the car til January so can work out how to finance it best. My OH has a bad credit rating but mine is good so a loan shouldn't be out of the question though I hate hate hate the thought of it.
Am making bacon and egg pie from a recipe given to me by my MIL later today. Well, I say recipe.. more a short description over the phone. I think I posted this last year but didn't try and make it myself, but today I am.
- Take one packet of value bacon bits, 2 eggs, 6oz flour, 3 oz marg and some water.
- Make the pastry with the flour, marg and enough water to hold it together.
- Roll it out and line dish... put as much bacon in as your dish will take.
- Mix a couple of eggs with some black pepper and pour in. Add the rest of the pastry lid and cook at about 180 for about half an hour.
- She said she judged it cooked when the pastry was done.
Finished my order for Approved Foods - if you join their forum you have the chance of getting a 10% discount on their already great prices. I was lucky enough to do so.
to all who need them and hope you all have fun this evening, whatever you are doing for Halloween!

Hi Diva,
Doooooh Thanks for setting me right. I wasn't totally awake and had to edit for numerous spellings. You have such lovely little additions to your posts - I love your animations.
Hope you have a good day,

Hi Molly and Diva
Diva - thanks for that delicious-sounding recipe. Will definitely be giving that a go!
Molly - one of my boys went through a phase when he couldn't seem to get enough beer down his throat! It doesn't last long, especially when they realise that their money is better spent on more important things - he's almost 28 now and just enjoys an occasional beer. Now that he has a wife, daughter, mortgage, and car, (and OS Mum!) he knows how to get value for his hard-earned money!
Jayne and George - (((hugs))) to you both. Jayne - that must have been so difficult for you, unpacking your dear husband's things. I do hope that the days get easier for you, and that you are taking good care of yourself.
Well, we only live in a small hamlet but I know that some children will be visiting for trick or treat this evening, because I've seen our neighbours' little girls in their garden with their outfits on! I have a dish of sweeeties ready for them.
Dinner today is something with some stewing beef - not decided yet!
Hope everyone has a good day.
Kathy

Morning all
I can't believe I'm up so early - especially on a Saturday morning, woke early and then couldn't get back to sleep. Not very much planned for this weekend, but must do some washing, drying and ironing today. We're going out for Sunday lunch tomorrow, not very OS but end of half term treat for us! Food very good and not expensive so I enjoy the time off! Have been trying to research some new recipes as we seem to eating the same things all the time, have a few new ideas so will be hoping to use them in the meal plan shortly. Made another batch of hob nobs yesterday afternoon. Have sweets etc for any T&T's that may come round tonight. Need to go now otherwise I'll still be on here in another hour!
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.
nmlcWEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB0 -
Morning All,
A dark grey dawn has turned into a light grey day here in Belfast while i've been sorting breakfast for the early risers.
Just getting my shopping list sorted so i can get out when the shops open and get back to do some batch cooking and baking.
I have a 3 year old who is TERRIFIED of all things halloween so i'm hoping to get her up to bed or at least out of the way before the kids start knocking the door! It means the other two cant get dressed up (they were supposed to be at their mums this weekend but THAT'S another story!) so i've said they can have the remaining sweets from the tin - i can see them handing out one sweet each to people !
Best get on - the house is a tip with me being at work all week and the kids being off!
Enjoy your day....and don't get too spooked:eek:

Morning!
MSD my DD loves your Halloween animations!
nmlc-well done on the weightloss. Are you following a particular plan? I have 5 stone to loose but cannot get motivated.
Well if anyone is thinking of going to see 'fantastic Mr fox' I wouldn't bother. But although my friend and I didn't think much of it the kids seemed to though my dd was frightened at times. However after she eventually uncovered her ears she seemed to enjoy the experience as a whole and wants to go again.
We went to pizza hut for lunch afterwards which was a bit pricey but we brought some home so I had that for tea and dd had a banana and some biscuits. Not that healthy but she was shattered and didn't want a proper meal. So yesterday cost £27 altogether. And our 3 half term trips out have cost £41.42 including meals out etc which I don't think is too bad-I had put £40 aside for this weeks treats.
We are shopping soon, waitrose has the whiskas that we get on 2 boxes for a fiver so I'm off to get 10 boxes.Much less than usual but I overstocked last month. Need a few basics-bread and milk etc too and some fruit and veg on monday, but we are going to friends for tea today and my mum's tomorrow so should be a cheap weekend.
DD is very excited as she and her friend are going trick or treating tonight with her friends teenage cousin. We are going to follow them to make sure they are safe. DD has not been before, her friend went with his cousin last year.I don't really agree with it and wouldn't take her on my own but it does seem a shame for her to miss out. I'm hoping we'll be home for SCD, especially as shes been up since 6am!
Need to get my white washing in now-dd's shirts have been soaking since yesterday morning in the hope that they might come clean.
Hugs to all that would like one.July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

Morning all
Jayne, you are incredibly brave & an inspiration.
What a lovely lie in, I didn't wake till 7, him next door has changed shifts so he won't be banging things on the stairs till around 10am. On the whole they a quiet neighbours, the main problem is the poor build quality, when the have their DGD to stay it sounds like a herd elephants, but she's a small 5 year old & doesn't wear shoes in the house. Someone suggested earplugs, I have tried them but can only use then in one ear, I have a rebuilt eardrum one side & I can't use earplugs on that side.
Plans for today include, burger inna bun with a beer for hubby, cos the GP is on later, & that what he does.
I finished the first 2 Christmas scarves, hopefully I'll get some orders from them. For now I'm back to the raspberry ripple blanket, just hope someone likes it enough to buy it. The money will go to Help for Heros, as my SIL is in the Army.
I'll be celebrating Samhain tonight, but won't be dancing skyclad in the garden as it is raining steadily here today & anyway my garden is overlooked & the neighbours already think I'm as mad as a box of frogs as I answer the door in a cloak & pointy hat. I shall instead make a jug of harvest punch, burn some rememberance oil & spend sometime thinking of those who have gone ahead.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all,
Wet grey and miserable here, OH has gone to the boot sale but think he may be back before long. I have his work clothes in the wm, heavy trousers, jacket etc, no idea how I will get them dry
, its still not cold enough for the heating here, which is great for the bills
.
Ikea was great yesterday, dd and I had a fab time, I haven't been for years and dd had never been, we had a good look round, and got all of her bedroom furniture, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside cabinet and mirror, all matching and in a soft cream colour, we will leave it flatpacked for now, in the hope for a move date soon, then we can just dump her old stuff before we move. I also got some rolls of xmas paper, and some beautiful glass xmas decs, and a new T-pot. :TLunch cost us £3.50, so a good day all round.
DD is off for a sleepover with her mates tonight, they are off trick or treating, then back to watch scary films, which will terrify my dd , who will come back tomorrow shattered, she is dressing like a geek
Need to hoover through and mop floors, chilli and rice for tea tonight, which OH always cooks :T
Jayne, you are being so brave, big hugs to you both, I hope kitty is behaving xxx
Have good days all xx0 -
