Any advice about cancelling gym membership?

Sorry, that's plain illogical.;)
What's the point having online banking - if you then decide to wander into your Branch for every activity? Have cancelled many DDs online - without problem.
In fact it's the best way of annoying Sky known to man. Cancel the DD (online - you can see it delete - and you get an advisory message) - and you get an apoplectic letter within the week. So you know its worked! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I'm not saying go to your branch for every transaction, just that I wouldn't trust cancelling DD's online. As I said, hubby cancelled one online and yes he got confirmation but regardless of this a payment was still taken.
Next time I'll keep my advice to myself.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Thanks for your advice.
I did cancel it online however it did come up with a warning saying that i would need to speak to someone directly at the bank if the payment was due within 2 days as they can't cancel certain types so close to payment.
I paidthe last time today and the payment has cleared from my bank account so I cancelled my DD.
So it seems all is well at the moment just got to wait until beginning of july to see if any red letters come from LA Fitness or debt collection agencies!
Many thanks again for all your advice!!!!
Shelly - i know where youre coming from about making doubly sure about cancelling. The amount of times ive used paying in machines and the payment hasnt actually gone through (even though I have a nice little print out from the machine to prove it has!) Better to be safe than sorry so I will pop in to my local branch next week when I next go shopping.0 -

Sorry - no intention to offend.:o
Was merely making the point, obviously a little clumsily, that cancelling a DD online is just another transaction. And should be no more error prone than, for example, a bill payment - where it's not usual advice to seek a 2nd opinion by going into the Branch? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Good luck.
I had major trouble cancelling my membership. Perhaps since i did not want to honour the 1 month cancellation period since i was moving out of the area. I said i wanted to rejoin LA Fitness in my new area (because the gym was actually pretty good).......
I cancelled my direct debit at the same time as cancelling my membership. Perhaps a stupid thing to do. I received a number of threatening letters about court summons, fines etc.
I did pay the one month cancellation fee in the end. After having done that i received another letter from them saying that they have added a £40.00 late payment charge!!! I told them to $cr3w themselves...well i told it with different words. In the end i got a letter stating the matter was closed but only after sending them one about how silly their system is.
My post can be found here....I will never never use LA Fitness again. I'm now using a council gym.

Thanks for the warning, seems it was well timed as there have been a few developments since 30th May!
This morning I get a letter through the post acknowledging my cancellation and saying sorry didnt get your letter in time for cut off. Now i apparantly have to pay at the end of June! This is after speaking to the membership manager the day i sent the letter to make sure it was received and also this person told me that 30th May would be the final payment so i have cancelled the DD.
Im thinking of contacting a solicitor to draft a letter to send telling them "politely" to stick it where the sun dont shine! Any suggestions on how i can handle this would be greatly appreciated!0 -
They will try to take the money out of your account at the end of june and will fail since you cancelled the direct debit. After which you'll get loads of letters threatening with court summons etc. And the letters are written with a very malicious tone.
I said to myself that i would fight my case to the end, but knowing it would take a very long time to sort out and the fact i was in the middle of moving house i just paid them in the end.
If you do stick to your guns i whish you the best of luck!0 -

I assume you're asking me?
Yes, they could transfer it but i said i wouldn't want to start the "new" membership straight away since i was moving home. I wanted to get settled and the house needs some work.So i asked to start in late summer/autumn but they couldn't do that......They're not interested in customer retention by the looks of it.
And by reading this post it looks like a lot of people have had problems with LA Fitness.....which i hope a representative reads.0 -

La fitness have conned me too!
I signed up for a month and was told i could cancel in that month if i didnt like it.
To cut a long story short i cancelled and now they are now threatening taking me to court for £1,059.93! In apparent arrears?
I cancelled my direct debits immediately and they are saying my contract is non-cancellable within the 12 month period! even though i ended the agreement as the guy said.
I dont really know what to do if it does go to court?
It would seem that this club have the power to ruin the rest of my life...
Afterall, if i get bad credit and a ccj then i'll never get a mortgage. All this stress for trialing a "health" and fitness club!?
They are using the consumer credit act 1974 against me.
If anyone can help me on this or advice me i would be most greatful.
