OP, you are still running Vista SP1. SP2 was released over 6 months ago now. Once you have cleaned your system you need to go to Windows Updates and download all critical updates, and check that it is set to receive and install updates automatically in future.

To be honest macman. Im not so sure its a good idea to download SP2 until the RAMs upgraded

Assuming it's an EI system laptop this is Dixons Group cheap make. They have a cheapish brand called advent and ei system is the even cheaper brand. It's probably got a basic Celeron processor and if they told you it was the fastest they lied to you. With 2gb of RAM it should do OK.
