I kinda share your reasoning but thats not the answer. There is more people on lower wages than there is top earners so even if you did tax them more it still would'nt balance the books. It would be used just as a PR stunt rarther than getting to the root cause of the problem.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.

To be honest, having experienced 151.9p/litre last year, I'm actually quite 'happy' to pay current prices.

Was it as high as that? I thought I remembered it being about 117.9p.

Or revert the benefits system to the safety net it is supposed to be and not a lifestyle choice that it is today.

Easy way to do that is to add a few quid per hour to the minimum wage. Then going to work would be preferable to Job Seekers + Housing Benefit + Council Tax Benefit. Those people would pay income tax and finally feed something *in* to the system. Yes the fat cat w anchors wouldn't be happy having to pay their lowly workers more and would be more likely to ferry foreigners in illegally, but it would kind of even everything out everywhere.

The only other problem is actually creating the numbers of jobs needed. Millions unemployed, only a few thousand jobs out there.

Yep im for that. But i think there is another side to things. We need too look how much this country can earn and work out how much this country gives away to other countries in the form of payments because someone says thats what we need too do. In some countries whatever they earn as a country has to stay in that country nobody else gets a share.

The easy way is to drop the benefits to way below a working wage for a start.

Make those who CHOOSE to be unemployed feel inferior.

The welfare states main purpose was to make sure nobody lived in poverty.

Now people choose to have a lifestyle subsidised by people who are no better off than themselves.

Why do the Government declare a Minimum wage, then top it up with working tax credits? Set the minimum wage to a proper level and thats that.

I don't know much about petrol prices but would like to see a prise chart so we could see what people in France , USA , Afica etc pay.

Unleaded is 1.2 Euros/Litre or approx £1.14/L and diesel around 94p/L in France at the moment, supermarket price, which is usually the cheapest over there. In the US regular petrol from $2.5 to $3 a US gallon depending on which state. A US gallon is around 3.8 litres

thats right, tax the high earners more so they leave the country all together. then that means less tax income for the country so we are left with even worse books to balance.
it could work out cheaper for smaller companies to upsticks and move to poland (or the likes) with lower wage bills on top of every other outgoing and still export thier product to britain beating our price manufacturing it here. this is why our county is f**ked.

my mate earns good money, reaching the higher bracket, if he had to earn much more it isnt worth his while living here any more as his job involves travelling all over the world so he would be aswell living somewhere with a lower income tax band.

sort out the scum who can but won't work then you might see a better country, dont increase minimum wage to match benifits, cut benifits so it works out better for the bums all over this country to get out and get a job,any kind of job.

Tax credits are all about control by the sate of the individual. Simple solution is increase personal allowance but where would the control be then.

We really are going way off base now......
