I've purchased a new car from car showroom, had been told it will take roughly 4 weeks for delivery, a deposit was also paid. Went to the showroom today to finalise all documentation for collection tomorrow. One of the sales staff accidently let slip that my NEW CAR is a SHOWROOM CAR, that has been on the forecourt for the last month. I was not told at the time as I was expecting a brand new car. I'm not happy with this, what actions should I take, if any ???
Many Thanks
If it's not been registered, it is brand new.
Surely better to have a one month old car that's been kept in a nice, dry showroom, than one that's been up to it's axis in a muddy field / compound for several months.
If you were told it wouyld take only 4 weeks to arrive, you should have realised it was already built (and so been stored somewhere).
New orders take a lot longer to schedule into factories, get built & get delivered, especially since may factories are not working at full capacity / full time because compounds are bulging at the fences with the number of unsold, NEW cars sat in them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
damage in transit of new cars is pretty common
So is damage / faults at the factory. You should see length of the the paint repair line in some plants."Now to trolling as a concept. .... well if nothing else, 'ordered a new car' and '4 weeks for delivery' dont tally up with 'your getting this showroom vehicle'.
id simply take advantage of your cooling off period, say you were missold and demand your money back.
they will either get you a better deal, get a 'real' new car, or let a valuable customer go to a competitor.
I thought the terms for this were 'no right to cancel' ?
If it can be cancelled, what would be the cooling off period?0 -
A brand new car had been totally resprayed?
I was very lucky even though it was about a week later that I noticed, the dealer JCT600 offered me my money back or replace the car with another new one and keep the one I had till the new one arrived, I chose the latter
They suspected the transport company had damaged it and had it repaired.
Most salesmen in main agents know nothing about cars let alone paintwork.

Did it not concern you that the wait was only 4 weeks? I would imagine a lead time of 4 weeks would always be a car that is either a showroom model or been sitting somewhere for months as mentioned already.
I've had new cars before, and am currently waiting for my new one, and would never order a new car without ordering one or two extras so that i know it is new!
My dad worked near the local docks and there used to be some cars parked there for well over a year! Mainly Vauxhalls/Peugeots etc.
Either get yourself a good discount or re order, taking my advice above!0 -
