Well a week of big changes in the Mac household starts today.

Little DD enters the first stage of obligation on the big hamster wheel of life. She is only doing mornings this week, then straight into breakfast and after school club next week :(

I am going through some big shifts in mindset, which aren't complete yet - but well under construction.

We (hopefully) get the keys to our new home! :j:j:j

I will - hopefully - run my first half marathon :o

Typing this with one hand as little dd is on my lap - so back later :)

It sounds like you need a little of the capsule wardrobe idea Macgirl. I liked your comment about not being twinset & pearls, OH would have kittens if I ever started dressing like that :rotfl:

New me image is getting there, just need a few more feminine items, as clothes are mainly very clean lines, and I'm nearly 5' 8" without heels. Just trying to get the balance right between elegant/sophisticated and tall without looking too butch :o

Are there any things unworn that you can take back? With the new fussier me, I've started taking things back more :o The last ones I took back were only out of the shop for an hour!!! I have found sometimes the mirrors in the changing rooms are so close that things look OK, but when you go home/back to hotel, and look from more of a distance they don't work so well, so now I do a quick try on when I get back to make sure the things are OK, or if it's to go with something else it really works.

Hope your eldest DD enjoys her first day at big school :)

Hope you complete and get the keys soon.

Thanks Se - when it comes to clothes - me and capsule will never be friends. I work in the industry so kind of need to stay current. If I'm honest, I make the mistake of buying cheaper things then don't wear them so often, rather than buy things from say Whistles (usually only in the sales) which last and I wear and wear....I just need to be more selective.

It's my youngest who's started today. I thought she might be clinging to my leg, but she couldn't get there fast enough this morning! Then had her nose pressed against the school door saying "When are they going to let me in???!!!" I do not expect that - but it was a huge relief.

She shouted "bye" over her shoulder and left me there feeling slightly dumbfounded - but delighted. Let's hope she's always so enthusiastic

Well just under 2 hours at home, then it's time to pick her up! :rotfl:

So I'm making a list of jobs and need to call the EA for an update on my viewers from the weekend. Have a good day :)

I'm wearing a whistles stripey top today, it wasn't in the sale :o But I'd been looking for chanel type stripey tops for ages, and they do a 3/4 sleeved t-shirt navy stripes with a mottled cream background that was just right. The same day I got a heavier weight striped more of a jumper version from American Apparel. I'd been looking for ages to get ones just right, I think OH was going to divorce me if I didn't find them soon!! The problem was caused by watching the "Coco avant Chanel" DVD :o

For classics I tend to accumulate gradually mainly from TKMaxx and the discount villages, lots of the stuff is awful, but then they suddenly get a good batch in :D

Being in the fashion industry would make it more difficult. OH has to look the part for work, so we have a seperate budget for his work clothes, it made it easier to allow the 'needed' spends without guilt at spending so much money compared to our normal clothes at the time.

Pleased to hear the first morning went well :D

Good luck with the list :)

    Busy busy.
The solicitors are moving at a pace now and have rang me twice today already, chasing house insurance details (not yet finalised as we haven't even exchanged yet), current house insurance and valuations. They have applied for the funds from the bank and said they don't do that unless we are going to complete - so Friday it is! :j

I also need to make sure I switch my childcare provider with the childcare voucher company - otherwise the money will still go to the nursery.

Although I haven't had much time off work, it has been nice to snatch some thinking time. Life is so much simpler with less "stuff" that I have made a decision to get rid of as much as I can. The 80/20 rule definitely applies to my wardrobe, the kid's clothes and toybox - so they will be areas to work on over the next few weeks and months.

Working through my Mr Big stuff, I'm surprised at how material goods just don't figure. What has is a need to be more creative and spend more time just laughing with friends - both cost virtually nothing and just need me to apply myself.

So this new house definitely symbolises a new start in more ways than one. I feel kind of a spiritual change.......it's weird but good - a sort of Epiphany.

Technically you are responsible for the new house insurance in place on exchange, as if anything happens between exchange & completion you are contractually required to complete. Or that's what we've been told in the past. That could be why the solicitor is chasing.

Oh, my wardrobe isn't exactly a 'capsule' :o One excuse is that with travelling with OH's work, I need a bigger temperature range of clothing than if you're just in one country. But it's definitely more capsule at the moment, just a few bags/suitcases in the back of the car to last through to next March, as not sure if I'll get near the store to swap things until then. It does get a bit boring and feels more like a uniform when you've got so few things to work with.

Good luck with the house move, and the wardrobe sort out etc., I must admit when I've done major declutters it saves so much time and energy. It also saves money as without the clutter you don't end up buying things you've already got but can't find :o

Thanks Se - I've sorted the house insurance, but the cover starts on Friday - so better check that with the Solicitors :o

What a palaver. I got really good quotes, then when I went to buy them, the price jumped by £200!
The fact that it's listed bumps it up considerably, as does our claim this year - Hmmm, it will defo be a DIY job next time we have a leak

I've tried to ring the childcare voucher people - another headsplitter. I don't have a reference number as the company was bought out last year. I've emailed numerous times for a ref number so I can use the site - but to no avail. They have 3 numbers on their website - none of which are manned by human beings, they all tell you to check the website :wall:

I mailed them again, but might have to ask the nursery to reject payment or ring them for me.....*breathe*

  • So I take it you were more concerned at DD starting big school than she was, scary, isn't it,when they start to grow up. Did you get anywhere with the agents.
