Wow - macgirl - this is all very exciting! Hope they go for it

Thank you to all!!! Yes, Mrs R, the nonchalance is fast becoming an Oscar winning performance!
No running - but it was bucketing down, so instead had a lovely dinner and wine with friend where we put the World to rights and she showed me around her new £40k kitchen. It's amazing, complete with AGA fridge freezer. How the other half live
She told me under no circumstances ring the agent to tell them we are away for the weekend - I was going to - so perhaps won't now.
I feel strangely calm about the whole thing - don't know whether that's a good sign or not (perhaps it's the wine - hic)0 -
DH's coughing woke me up to thoughts of "What are we doing? What if one of us falls ill and can't pay the mortgage what if his business fails what if I lose my job what if there's a rate hike and we can't pay the mortgage what if we need to sell this house and no one will buy it?????? We are mad shortsighted overstretching beyond overstretching I am an idiot when there are tales all over this forum of how everything ends in tears, we should wait rather then get up to our necks....."
DH said they are not going to accept the offer anyway, so stop worrying. I said he's saying that to protect himself, he said that's he's handling better than I am. That's fine for him to say I am the one driving it, I am the one searching the internet, making the appointments, ringing the mortgage company, IFA, solicitor etc, he is just along for the ride (and stumping up the cash). And I am the one who is Carp with money and I am making the bl00dy financial decisions!!!! What is that saying? A fool and his money are easily parted.....Cold feet is not even in it.

Oh dear cold feet at 3am not good but I am still in the que sera mode and if we analyse everything like that we wouldn't do anything you will be fine.

Yup, 2.53am is never a good time to be coming to conclusions!
There will always be "what ifs" with house buying.
What I would say, is that in your case, you will still have a property......the worst case scenario is that you simply sell it to get yourself out of a pickle if you find yourself on one salary, or unable otherwise to maintain two houses.
So - you have options - and that is a pretty good place to be!
Hope your day improves, and they put you out of your misery soon!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Thanks DT and Hypno. The dawn brings a clearer head
(though it was light at 5am when I eventually went to bed
)
This morning I am going to ring the bank again. We did get an agreement in principle, but my primary concern is that (unwittingly) I think I overestimated what our house is worth. I thought I was being conservative, but then I was checking last night and think I got it wrong. This would obviously affect what we can borrow, so I do need to double check that.
We can afford it, and as you say Hypno, if things did go belly we could get out of it - I know, as a very last resort if I was desperate my parents would not see us stuck. It will be fine.
Actually, whether or not the offer is accepted is the one thing I am not worrying about!
Have a good day x0 -
I agree with Hypno and DT...
You definitely have options and will never be stuck.
You are aware of all the what ifs and already have a good idea of wht if ever what if ever happened you would do..so put it to the back of your mind and as DT said we'd never take a risk on anything or get anything done.0 -
Thanks Taxi :A
I think it's part of my coping mechanism and probably good that I'm considering the pitfalls too. If I'm all cool and calm, I will come unstuck.
Obviously, I gave up pretending to be calm a long time ago! I most definitely wear my heart on my sleeve.
I just rang the Natwest and as there are lots of different parts to it, I was getting passed front department to department. So instead I sanded my living room door where the kids had drawn on it. another job ticked off the list!
Today is sorting out our bedrom day, so I'll strip the bed and do half an hour of decluttering then ring them again.
It's a nice Sunny day here so I'll get some washing out on the line
OMG As I'm typing, the kids were out giggling in the front garden in their nighties and wellies - I left the front door open while I was sanding -
Good job social services aren't watching - the shame! Right must get cracking x0 -
Little ones are good at escaping..lol
It's quite sunny here as well...my washing has just finished so that can go on the line now as well.
Pretty much the same here decluttering etc.0 -
The agent rang back and surprise, surprise - the offer was rejected. They said they are willing to negotiate with us, but we can't possibly raise our offer.
TBH, although I feel a bit
as in the back of my mind I guess I thought there was a slim chance they would accept it, in an MSE way, I'm also sort of relieved. 0
