i have one with 3 and one with 02

3 one is slow and loses connection alot, 02 is much better and very fast.

i have had mine about a year and just use them for MB purposes, and i dont think i have ever used 100mb in one month.......not even close...

    call 3, i get 5GB for £7 per month....

i cant justify a monthly fee though - i just want one where you pay (fairly) for a certain amount of allowance (i.e. gb download) and there is no time expiry on it.

Anyone aware of any - longer than vodafone's?

another question - what is the IP linked to? Is it the dongle - or the sim (I assume there is one - never had mobile broadband so dont know for sure)? In other words - could you but one dongle, and have multiple top-ups - each coming with their own IP address?

alternatively - if you unplug a dongle - and then plug it back in again - does the IP address change (if so - does it ALWAYS change)?

  • According to some contributors on the GIOL board, there are some systems where you get a different IP address each time you log in. Of course, the risk is that you may get an IP address where there are other MBers.... Search for 'different IP' on the GIOL board and something may well come up. :D
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

I have a vodafone dongle here. Each time I connect to the vodafone network I get a different ip. Consecutive connections were:

    212.183.140.18
    212.183.140.50
    212.183.140.22
    212.183.134.130

Seems like it takes one from the pool each time. Will it always change? Don't think we can guarantee that, but it looks likely to change on most occasions.

Basically a cheap dongle. Use the software from the post to unlock the dongle. Buy an IPhone PAYG sim from e-bay. Top it up with £10 to unlock the free 3g minutes. Put the sim in the Dongle and enjoy free 3G Broadband.

Not tried it myself as I don't use roaming broadband enough but sounds like it will work a treat dependant on your usage. If your just browsing sites etc then I reckon you could get away with £10 per year.

wow, sounds the perfect solution. Now if that also gives unlimited IPs each time you connect - perfect. But good anyway! If its 3G - how quick would it be? If its anything like my phones T-Mobile 3G internet - its painfully slow - and no good for surfing in my opinion.

But that is limited to 12 months with 1 £10 top up.

12 months mobile broadband for £10 can't be bad. Then just get another sim/top-up again/move provider.

All relative to what you want it for really.

Who's your home broadband through? I know some companies offer free mobile broadband as part of the package. Think Virgin do this but not looked deeply into it as I am happy with just £10 as and when I need it PAYG as the company pays for it ;)
