My current one is a 4 Speed. So as you can imagine, it is dead slow. It takes almost an hour to do an hour long episode/movie.
Im looking for say a 16/32 speed at a reasonable price...ie under £45. Am i right in thinking i can gave a 32 speed writer-yet if the disc is a 4speed, it will only burn at 4 speed?
Does anyone have any recomendations for which writer to go for?

Hi,
I think the leading write speed for DVD is 16x at present.
This Asus comes in at £49.

And yes you are correct, if you have a 8x writer using 4x discs then 4x should be only possible. This can be slightly misleading too, my DVD writer is a 4x writer but its a lite-on so plenty of 3rd party firmwares for it, this has made it a 8x writer. I've used 4x discs (riteks) and they burned at 8x fine....
Good quality media usualy burns at higher speeds than advertised. You can download free tools to analise media and find its highest write speed.0 -
1 hour to do a 1 hour dvdr? you either have not updated the aspi layers, have selected the wrong speeds, not updated the drivers or are using the wrong speed dvdrs.
x 4 should take 15 minutes ( in theory) for 1 hour of film.
a x 4 dvdr will only burn at x4, i am guessing you have a pioneer 104 or 105, you need to update the firmware for it to work at x 4.
for £25 you should be able to get a dvdr x 16.what is the plural of moose?
